Job Summary

Ambulatory Care Patient Supervisor II are registered nurses who are responsible for the operation of the nursing unit over a specific time period. The Ambulatory Care Patient Supervisor must have a strong foundation of clinical knowledge and skills on which to base judgments and make decisions, organizing abilities to direct nursing tasks and operations, and interpersonal skills to facilitate communication and the work of others. The Ambulatory Care Patient Supervisor accepts the responsibility for, and is accountable for, his/her own nursing practice. The Ambulatory Care Patient Supervisor also seeks out and pursues opportunities for learning and assumes responsibility for their own self-development. Registered nurses must be knowledgeable and skillful in performing the Ambulatory Care Patient Supervisor role. A registered nurse who assumes the role of Ambulatory Care Patient Supervisor also assumes the responsibility inherent to the role. Three fundamental responsibilities for Ambulatory Care Patient Supervisor include planning, coordinating, and evaluating unit nursing activities. In addition, the Ambulatory Care Patient Supervisor identifies and implements nursing interventions and evaluates results for a wide variety of patient populations, directs and acts as resource to other members of the nursing team as assigned and promotes compliance and support for policies. The primary responsibilities for this position consist of providing total, comprehensive, continuous and patient centered care which includes: assessing, documenting, planning, implementing, teaching, developing, and evaluating a comprehensive nursing plan of care; delivering direct patient care; ensuring patient satisfaction; training and delegating duties; and adhering to University policies and procedures as well as federal, state and local regulations. Autonomous nursing care is the ability of a nurse to assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The nurse is expected to practice autonomously consistent with American Nurses’ Association Standards of Practice and Professional Performance. Independent judgment is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care.

Located on the Sacramento Campus, UC Davis Cardiology Outpatient Services provides comprehensive, innovative, and quality care for patients with heart conditions including coronary heart disease, heart valve disease (structural), heart failure (advanced cardiac therapies), heart rhythm disorders (arrhythmia), and risk factor reduction. Together our team of physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, licensed vocational nurses, device technicians, medical assistants, and clerical staff strive daily to exceed patient expectations for exceptional care. The program is nationally recognized for our excellence by U.S. News and World Report, and the clinic hosts 20, 000 patient visits per year.

Department Specific Job Scope

The Cardiology Clinic Assistant Nurse Manager plays a key role in supporting daily clinical operations within the Ellison Ambulatory Care Center. This position serves as a clinical and operational resource to Cardiology Clinic staff and provides direct supervision to registered nurses in General Cardiology, Heart Failure, Device, Cardiac Rehabilitation, as well as a registered dietician. The role also includes delivering direct patient care and ensuring high-quality, patient-centered service across the clinic.

  • Provide direct supervision, mentoring, and support to nursing staff and the dietician across multiple Cardiology service areas.
  • Oversee and support daily clinical operations to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care.
  • Deliver direct patient care, including: Patient triage (in-person and telephonic), Management of emergent patient situations, Administration of IV diuretics, IV fluids, SQ/IM injections, Patient education and care coordination, EKG performance and interpretation, Support and manage EPIC In Basket workflows, ensuring timely response and follow-up.
  • Collaborate with clinic leadership to maintain regulatory compliance, quality standards, and workflow efficiency.
  • Serve as a clinical resource to staff, offering guidance on complex clinical issues and patient management.
  • Assist in personnel management, including scheduling, performance feedback, and supporting staff development.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the needs of the Cardiology Clinic.
