Responsibilities and Duties

Develop and implement effective educational programs that align with the best practices in nursing and patient care.

Evaluate the effectiveness of clinical training programs and make improvements as necessary.

Work closely with Director of Nursing and Assistant Director’s of Nursing to understand their learning needs and deliver customized educational interventions.

Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in healthcare and state regulations for compliance to promote best practices.

Collaborate with other healthcare educators in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of interdisciplinary educational programs.

Reach out to vendors for opportunities to enhance your education programs

Maintain that required staff education is completed timely to ensure facility compliance. (This will require you to know the % of compliance weekly to ensure your facility meets 100% compliance monthly).

All clinical staff (Hospitality aides, C.N.A.’s, C.M.A.’s, LVN’s & RN’s) competencies should be completed the month prior to their anniversary date. As well as their Hand hygiene, glove & PPE donning & doffing completed quarterly.

All other staff must have their hand hygiene, glove & PPE donning and doffing competencies completed quarterly.

All annual skills competencies and quarterly infection control competencies documentation must be maintained and logged on the appropriate logs for the DON to review at all times.

Carries the role of the infection Preventionist and is responsible for managing the program.

Infection control log is completed daily after review all new orders.
-
Once the log is updated McGeers should be validated for completion.
-
Floor plan is to updated with any new infections and color coded by infection.
-
Director of Nurses should be notified if any potential trend is identified when tracking infections.
-
All QAPI material for infections will be provided to the Director of nurses no Later than the 5th of the month for the previous month.

Any identified trend would require immediate education, which you would complete and give a copy to the Director of Nursing.

This position is also a backup for the Assistant Director of Nursing, so you will need to review the Job Description for the Assistant Director of Nursing as it should be attached to this one.

There may be many tasks that come up related to annual surveys, staffing concerns, admissions that will require the Director of Nursing to ask you to assist with tasks or assignments not listed on your job description, but they are part of your job.
Qualifications
-
A Licensed Nurse RN is preferred but may be filled with an LVN.

Must have an active license.
-
A minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in a long term care setting is required.

Must maintain a current Infection Preventionist Certification
-
At least 1 year of experience in a nurse educator role.
-
Advanced certification as a nurse educator is also desirable.
Skills and Competencies
-
Should have excellent communication and presentation skills.
-
Ability to translate complex clinical information into understandable terms for all levels of staff.
-
Strong interpersonal skills, analytical skills, and critical thinking abilities are required.
-
Familiarity with various teaching methods and the ability to work in a multicultural environment is also required.
