Responsibilities

Mayo Clinic Arizona is seeking a motivated Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant (NP/PA) to join our outpatient cardiology team. NP/PAs within the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine work within care teams comprised of both physicians and NP/PAs working collaboratively.  In a care team model, NP/PAs are partnered with physician, nursing, and administrative colleagues to support patient care needs of the team.  In addition to supporting team based care, the NP/PA also maintains their own clinic with individual patients.  Together, the teams provide care for a wide range of cardiac patients across subspecialities including general cardiology, valve clinic, heart rhythm clinic, advanced heart failure/cardiac transplant clinic, adult congenital heart disease clinic, vascular clinic, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy clinic.  Additionally, the APP will collaborate with other subspecialities and primary care both within and outside of Mayo Clinic.

 

This is a 0.75 FTE (60 hours per pay period) position. The NP/PA will play a key role on a multidisciplinary team within Comprehensive and Preventative Cardiology, delivering high-quality, patient-centered care. Responsibilities include post-hospital follow ups, symptom assessments, longitudinal management, diagnostic review, and development of individualized treatment plans.  The NP/PA will be expected to see conditions including but not limited to hypertension, hyperlipidemia, preventive cardiology, congestive heart failure, atrial and ventricular arrythmias, coronary artery disease, valvular disease, and peripheral vascular disease.  They will be expected to support the needs of clinic. There will be opportunities to collaborate with multiple subspecialities, participate in cutting-edge research, and contribute to Mayo Clinic's Bold.Forward.Unbound initiatives.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments, diagnoses, and manage care for patients with a variety of cardiology conditions
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, including pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions
  • Coordinate diagnostic evaluations and interpret results related to cardiology conditions
  • Educate patients and their families on disease process, management strategies, lifestyle modifications, and medication adherence

Qualifications

Nurse Practitioner: Masters-prepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing and Nurse Practitioner program. Current AZ RN and APRN license and certification as a FNP, ANP or ACNP.  


Physician Assistant: Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program with current PA certification by NCCPA and registration as a PA by the AZ State Board of Medical Practice.  


Additional Qualifications:

  • Active BLS and ACLS certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross at start date and DEA registration required
  • Prefer 2 years of cardiology experience.
  • Excellent verbal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability.
  • Flexibility to adjust schedule to meet patient and staff needs.
  • Ability to manage time and stress effectively and adapt to unpredictable situations within the patient care setting.
  • Strong computer skills in an Electronic Medical Record preferred.
  • Must attest to ability to care for adolescent patients.
