Definition of Position: 

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse to join our Cardiology clinic team. This position provides comprehensive clinical and administrative support to healthcare providers, including direct patient care, electronic health record management, coordination of referrals and prior authorizations, and administrative functions essential to clinic operations. The Clinic RN works under the supervision of the Clinic Nursing Supervisor or Practice Manager, collaborating as part of an integrated healthcare team to ensure efficient clinical workflow and optimal patient outcomes.


Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  Clinical Care & Patient Management

 

  • Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments and specialty-specific nursing visits
  • Perform post-operative wound checks, dressing changes, and wound care management as applicable
  • Administer medications, injections, immunizations, and treatments as ordered by physicians
  • Assist with procedures and examinations specific to the specialty area
  • Monitor vital signs and document patient responses to treatments
  • Recognize and respond appropriately to changes in patient condition
  • Perform diagnostic tests including EKGs, spirometry, glucose monitoring, and CLIA-waived laboratory tests as appropriate to scope of practice
  • Conduct focused nursing visits for blood pressure monitoring, suture/staple removal, injection appointments, weight checks, and routine procedures

 

Electronic Health Record Management & Communication

 

  • Monitor and triage Epic InBasket messages in accordance with clinic protocols
  • Provide telephone triage for patient calls regarding urgent/emergent care and clinical questions
  • Document all patient interactions, assessments, and interventions accurately in Epic
  • Manage referrals and coordinate care between specialties
  • Respond to patient portal messages and telephone calls within established timeframes
  • Assist with prior authorization requests and coordinate with referral staff as needed
  • Process prescription refill requests and coordinate with providers as needed

 

Patient Education & Support

 

  • Provide comprehensive patient and family education on disease processes, medications, and treatment plans
  • Develop and deliver specialty-specific education materials and instructions
  • Counsel patients on post-operative care, medication compliance, and lifestyle modifications specific to the specialty
  • Support patients in understanding diagnostic procedures and test preparations
  • Facilitate patient understanding of treatment options and discharge instructions

 

Team Collaboration & Clinical Support

 

  • The employee supports the hospital mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures.
  • Work closely with physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants to ensure coordinated care
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and care planning conferences
  • Mentor and provide guidance to medical assistants and other support staff
  • Communicate effectively with ancillary departments and external healthcare providers
  • Collaborate effectively with medical assistants, rooming patients when clinic flow requires additional support
  • Assist with examination room preparation and ensure adequate inventory of medical supplies
  • Support front office operations including appointment scheduling and phone coverage as needed

 

Quality & Compliance

 

  • Adhere to all clinic policies, procedures, and safety protocols
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements including OSHA, HIPAA, and DNV standards
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical outcome measurements
  • Ensure proper infection control practices and sterilization procedures as indicated
  • Contribute to maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and staff
  • Participates in required education for DNV programs as applicable to position (reference program education curriculum).

General Support

 

  • Performs other related duties as assigned. 
  • Position requires flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as patient care needs and clinic operations dictate
  • May be assigned to work across various medical specialties within the Good Shepherd Medical Group

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Education

              Required: Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.

Preferred: BSN             

Licenses/ certifications/ registrations

Required: Current, unrestricted Oregon Registered Nurse license. Current BLS certification. 

Preferred: ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification, Specialty certification relevant to assigned clinic area (e.g., CPN for Pediatrics, CGRN for Gastroenterology).

 

Experience

Required: The ability to work with a culturally diverse population.   

Preferred: Bilingual and/or English Spanish speaking. Minium 2 years of clinical nursing experience. Experience with Epic electronic health record system. Knowledge of evidence-based practice and quality improvement methodologies   

 

Other

  • Knowledge of computers, phones, and other office equipment.
  • Knowledge in clinical equipment including but not limited to: EKG, vital sign monitoring devices, glucometer, scales, various lab testing equipment, etc.

The role involves frequent exposure to infectious and contagious diseases, hazardous materials, and medical equipment, with the expectation that all staff follow appropriate safety protocols and utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

Responsibilities 1) Check patients into exam room, obtains then charts pertinent information, vitals, medications, etc. pertaining to the clinic visit then assists provider as needed. 2) Sets up for examinations and/or procedures with necessary supplies and instruments as directed by provider then assists provider as needed. Ensures the instruments are properly cleaned and sterilized for the next procedure. 3) Stocks and maintains adequate medical supplies in exam rooms and within clinic supply area, reordering as needed. Stocks and maintains adequate supplies of vaccines and other medications, reordering as needed. Follows direction of provider regarding supplies or vaccines needed. 4) Responds to incoming phone calls and/or messages from patients, other providers, insurance companies, pharmacies regarding medical or insurance questions, referring to the provider to assist you as needed. Also input faxed Rx refill requests into electronic record then route to appropriate provider for completion. 5) Maintain an outline for procedures to assist other personnel when helping the provider. 6) Obtain insurance referrals for patient appointments with other providers. Obtains prior authorization for medications as directed by provider. 7) Charts into record, paper or electronic, vital signs, medications, histories, immunizations and other necessary information as directed. 8) Administers immunizations, vaccines, contraceptive injections, Lupron injections, etc. as directed, following protocol for patient. Documents injection site, Lot #, and vaccine into the electronic medical record. 9) Performs EKGs, spirometry, diabetic glucose checks i.e. Accuchecks, waived CLIA lab tests i.e. dip urinalysis, pulse oximetry, catheterizations, performs IV placement and therapy, etc., as ordered by provider. Presents results to provider then documents these into electronic medical record. 10) Performs patient education as directed by provider i.e. nebulizer treatments, breast feeding, fingerstick glucose checks, etc. 11) Performs nursing visits, i.e. blood pressure checks, staple/stitch removal, shots only visits, weight check, catheter change, etc. 12) Triages patient calls for urgent/emergent care, making appointments for patients needing same day appointments, double booking as needed. Follows practice triage protocols, requesting from provider as needed. 13) Assists with front office duties, i.e. schedule appointments, prepare charts, answer phone, enters computer data into the electronic medical record, and file as needed. Assists with all other duties as needed within the clinic to ensure efficiency and productivity. 14) Position may require working variable hours including nights and weekends and within various specialties. 15) Provide Vaccine Coordination for GSMG Clinics Qualifications Education - Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing Licenses , Certifications, and/or Registrations- Current RN license in the State of Oregon; BLS Other – Bilingual and/or English-Spanish speaking preferred.
