This is a 20-bed Cardiovascular Critical Care Unit that cares for critically ill adults. The majority of patients admitted to the CCU are cardiac patients with both medical and surgical conditions. The patient population includes CABG, Cardiothoracic surgery, Transvenous Aortic Valve Replacement, intra-aortic balloon pumps, Cardiogenic shock, V-A and V-V ECMO, acute MI, LVADs, vascular surgeries as well as other illnesses requiring intensive care. Patients in this unit frequently require ventilator support, titrating drips, arterial lines, Swan-Ganz catheters, cardiac output monitoring, pacemakers and other invasive monitoring. The nurse will be required to exhibit critical thinking and decision-making skills as well as demonstrate accurate assessment and documentation. The nurse-to-patient ratio in this unit is 1:2, which allows the nurse to collaborate with other members of the healthcare team as well as the patient and their family members for a coordinated plan of care. The nurse must be ACLS certified or willing to obtain certification, which can be done through our Training and Development Center free of charge to employees. Orientation for new grads is a structured 16-week program with an experienced preceptor. This position is open to nurses with at least 1 year of Critical Care experience or a graduate of a nursing program that includes a Critical Care rotation.
