Responsibilities

The Student Extern is an adjunct to the patient care team.  The extern performs at the level that has successfully been completed and passed in the clinical section at a local college.  Under the general supervision of an RN the extern provides direct patient care in accordance with the established protocols, the skills they are able to perform are expanded.  All newly hired externs will first function in the capacity of a nursing assistant, regardless of their nursing program clinical level.  When the student has been cleared by the Supervisor, they may be moved to their appropriate skill level.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

 

  • Enrolled in an accredited registered nursing program with completion of nursing fundamentals course.
  • Student must be in good academic standing.
  • Current BCLS (ARC or AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant or Emergency Medical Technician preferred.

Responsibilities The Registered Nurse provides direct care in the outpatient wound care clinic as well as evaluating inpatient wounds. Communicate with physicians / charge nurse / co – workers, as appropriate regarding changes in the patient’s treatment, clinical condition including results of diagnostic studies. Has the ability to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Qualifications EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING 1. Must have current and valid license as a Registered Nurse issued by the state. 2. BCLS (AHA) upon hire and maintain current. 3. Previous Acute Care hospital experience preferred. 4. Previous Wound care knowledge and or experience preferred (1 Year). 5. Wound Care Certification within first year of hire 6. Wound, Ostomy, Continence (WOC) Certification preferred Pay Transparency Shasta Regional Medical Center offers competitive compensation and the current compensation range for this role is $55.32.
