GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the supervision of the Residential Services Manager, this position assists in the development and implementation of individual program plans; serves as an advocate and role model for all residential clients; plans and supervises client activities; ensures medication administration is completed accurately and per regulations and policies; assists clients with community integration; documents observations and results of all interventions; upholds client rights including confidentiality and maintenance of the residences. Employee is responsible for ensuring a clean, safe and healthy environment.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES
1. Ensures medications are administered as directed and effectiveness is documented per physician orders and in accordance with policies, procedures and regulations.
2. Review and be aware of each resident’s stabilization plan including short term goals and transition back into the community.
3. Works directly with clients and ensures an environment is conducive to client learning to manage their crisis through developing healthy coping skills, self-care skills, action planning, and identifying community supports.
4. Assists in the development and implementation of schedules for individual and group programming, activities, and breaks.
5. Role models appropriate social behavior while providing supportive and therapeutic atmosphere for clients.
6. Investigate and respond promptly to questions or complaints from residents.
7. Participate in meal serving and clean up.
8. Advocates for residents, including coordinating staffings, developing individual programs, performing assessments, training other staff in program procedures, reviewing stabilization plans, short term goals, and action plans, and making referrals for services as needed.
9. Works collaboratively with Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) and supervisory staff in ensuring program services meet regulatory expectations.
10. Complete all required documentation in a timely manner including but not limited to skill building, shift summaries, observations, program data, staffing results, medication administration, assessments, and incident reports in accordance with established procedures.
11. Inform the appropriate individuals and/or supervisor of any resident issues.
12. Ensure facility and residents remain clean and safe during all scheduled work shifts.
13. Provide resident transportation needs as needed.
14. Intervene when residents demonstrate potential or actual harmful behavior using least restrictive method.
15. Be able to provide verbal de-escalation and/or physical behavior management techniques as trained through BMC.
16. Promotes concepts of performance improvement and teamwork
17. Completes daily living role modeling and completion, including self-care, laundry, meal preparation, grocery shopping and cleaning.
18. Attends and/or completes all required meetings and training courses within required timeframes, including regular departmental staff meetings.
19. Develops and maintains awareness of broad spectrum of community resources and knowledge of how to access them as needed by patients.
20. Provides referrals to BMC and community resources as appropriate.
21. Works within their discipline specifics, performance standards and code of ethics.
22. Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. High School diploma or equivalent
2. Verification of completion of a state approved Medication Aide course.
3. Two years of experience in behavioral or mental health services.
4. Ability to teach, educate and role model the skills necessary for clients to pursue more independent living.
5. Valid Iowa driver's license and proof of individual insurance.
6. Department of Health and Human Services approval to work at a residential site.
7. Ability to effectively speak read and write English.
8. Ability to administer and document medication administration accurately.
9. Ability to successfully complete and pass First Aid, CPR and BMC designated de-escalation training during the orientation period and maintain all certifications throughout employment.
10. Ability to establish and maintain positive interpersonal and professional relationships.
11. Experience with Microsoft Office programs
12. Ability to physically respond to and manage client behavior challenges utilizing BMC approved and trained behavioral management techniques.
13. Strong organizational skills.

1. Bachelor’s degree in Human Services field
2. Bi-lingual
3. 2+ years behavioral health experience
