JOB SUMMARY
The Associate Chief Nursing Officer is accountable for organizing, leading and managing the Medical Center’s Adult Inpatient (Including Inpatient Psychiatry and Emergency Department) areas in partnership with other managers and respective Medical Directors, so the highest quality care is delivered. The Associate Chief ensures the clinical enterprise works harmoniously with and supports the teaching and research mission of the Health System. The Associate Chief directly oversees programs in acute and critical care that support the delivery of inpatient services. As a deputy of UVA Health Northern VA & Culpeper CNO, the Associate Chief partners with Human Resources on recruitment and retention of all team members that fall under the CNO area.
Patient Care: Works with team members to develop or improve processes to assure a remarkable patient experience.
- Creates and maintains a healthy work environment that results in improved patient outcomes, retention, and organizational excellence.
- Collaborates with physicians to develop or improve processes surrounding care of patients.
- Coordinates the provision of patient care through delegation, problem solving, time management and organizational skills.
Quality: Works in partnership with leaders to create, support, and maintain a culture of professional accountability.
- Partners with family and patients to resolve concerns related to the delivery of health care.
- Assures that team members provide care that is consistent with The Joint Commission and other regulatory requirements.
Communication: Ensures timely and consistent communication to provide exemplary care.
- Provides progress updates to team members in a timely manner.
- Utilizes communication methods and tools to deliver information that improves quality of personal and organizational decisions.
- Collaborates with physicians to develop or improve processes surrounding care of patients.
- Assists with conducting departmental meetings.
- Creates an environment that supports and respect differences and belonging.
- Coaches and mentors the team in order to achieve goals.
Medical Knowledge: Demonstrates core knowledge of biomedical and clinical sciences and the application of this knowledge to patient care.
- Meets and maintains required certifications and licenses.
- Monitors operations on a daily basis and provides guidance to the nursing team.
- Develops and implements plan for self-development and succession planning.
The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: 4 Year/Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required. Graduate Degree preferred.
Experience: 5 Years of experience in management with progressive leadership abilities required. Administrative experience in an academic setting strongly preferred. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details.
Licensure: Current RN licensure in applicable state required. Certification in specialized area preferred.

Additional Skills/Requirements Preferred: Board certification in area of practice.
