Key Responsibilities (LPN Focus) As the LPN Shift Supervisor, you will assist in overseeing the nursing staff and ensuring consistent, high-quality patient care in alignment with the RN supervisor's directives. Patient Care Coordination: Assist the RN supervisor in assessing patient needs, implementing treatment plans, and coordinating with supervising physicians to ensure recovery goals are met. Supervision & Monitoring: Supervise assigned nursing staff (e.g., CNAs) and monitor the delivery of care on your assigned shift, ensuring duties are performed according to established protocols and guidelines. Clinical Tasks: Monitor medication distribution, observe blood drawing, and ensure other essential patient care tasks are performed accurately. Documentation: Assist in tracking treatments and patient progress, ensuring all required documentation is completed accurately and in compliance with facility and HIPAA guidelines. Staff and Family Education: Provide educational information to staff, residents, and their families to promote best practices in healing and wellness. Team Collaboration: Work independently and as part of a collaborative team to ensure all operational duties are fulfilled and assist with other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Nursing, Director of Nursing, or Administrator. Qualifications Licensure: Must hold an Active Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in good standing. Experience: A minimum of three years of supervisory experience in a hospital, long-term care, or related facility is required. Prior experience in inpatient, palliative care, and managing staff is preferred. Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and computer skills are essential. Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as required. Complete accident/incident reports, as necessary. Participate in developing the agenda for care plan committee meetings. Ensure that rooms are ready for new admissions. Greet newly admitted residents upon admission. Escort to room, as necessary. Do nursing assessments. Make rounds with a physician. Ensures timely and proper handling of accident/incident reports and checks to see that documentation is accurate/complete and that proper follow up is performed. Oversees the management of the unit. Reviews charts for completion and documentation accuracy. Ensures correct narcotic count and documentation of controlled substances on unit. Ensures that O2 equipment, enteral feeding pumps, suction machines and other specialized equipment is functioning and that needed supplies are available. Deals effectively, professionally, and tactfully with neighbors and family complaints. Observes undesirable visitors within the facility and assists in maintaining internal and external security. Maintains staff morale and promotes their working together as a unified team. Prepares, reviews, and submits written documentation to the ADON/DON on personnel’s performance and any disciplinary action taken for conduct contrary to facility policy. Responsible for supervising, evaluating, counseling and disciplining personnel on assigned unit. Assists in orientation and on the job training of new employees and ongoing education of staff. Performs direct neighbor care and other job-related duties as required. Requirements for a RN Unit Manager: Valid RN License One year of long term care experience is required Must be in good standing with the State Registry Excellent Work Ethic Must have demonstrated the ability to make decisions with good nursing judgement, handle emergencies and maintain excellent patient assessment skills.
