Position Summary

The Certified Medical Assistant performs routine clinical and administrative duties to support daily operations in the assigned clinic or physician practice. The CMA works under the supervision of a licensed provider or nurse, assisting with patient care, diagnostic testing, documentation, and front-office functions to ensure efficient and compassionate service delivery.

Minimum Education & Experience

  • Required: High school diploma or equivalent

  • Required: Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program or equivalent

Licensure & Certifications

  • Required: Current certification as a CCMA, CMA, or RMA

  • Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification - must be obtained within 60 days of hire

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and work independently with minimal supervision

  • Effective communication and interpersonal abilities

  • Ability to perform efficiently in a fast-paced, high-stress environment

  • Proficient in basic computer applications and electronic medical records (EMR)

Essential Functions

  • Assist physicians and nurses with patient assessments, treatments, and procedures

  • Perform basic diagnostic tests and collect laboratory specimens as directed

  • Monitor, record, and report changes in patient condition to appropriate clinical staff

  • Accurately document all patient care activities and treatments

  • Maintain examination rooms, equipment, and medical supplies - restock, clean, and troubleshoot as needed

  • Perform administrative duties such as reception, patient registration, scheduling, and data entry

  • Ensure patient confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA and organizational policies

Non-Essential Functions

  • Participate in quality-improvement activities and staff meetings

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental goals

Our full-time team members work a rotating 36-40 hour/week schedule, consisting of 12-hour weekday shifts and every-other weekend. Our PRN (per diem) team members are scheduled on an as-needed basis. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: The following duties and responsibilities generally reflect the expectations of this position but are not intended to be all inclusive. Other duties may be assigned. • Promptly greets patients when entering waiting area, exam room, and laboratory or x-ray room • Consistently communicates with patients on wait times; provides direction to the next step in the treatment process • Provides solutions to patient problems and recognizes and seeks help in emergent/hazardous situations • Executes follow-up calls with a sense of urgency • Assist front desk personnel with patient check in/out procedures when necessary • Obtains and accurately documents patient vital signs and weight, takes brief history, past medical, family and social history current medications, allergies and other pertinent historical information as appropriate • Assists with patient transfers • Assists with procedures directly supervised by the provider • Follows documentation procedures and completes required documentation related to patient visit.
