Definition of Position: 

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Licensed Practical Nurse to join our Urology clinic team. This position provides essential clinical and administrative support to healthcare providers under the supervision of registered nurses and physicians. The Clinic LPN assists with direct patient care, electronic health record documentation, and administrative functions that support efficient clinic operations. The Clinic LPN works under the clinical supervision of the Clinic Nursing Supervisor or other licensed healthcare provider, collaborating as part of an integrated healthcare team to ensure optimal patient outcomes and clinic workflow.


Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

Clinical Care & Patient Support

 

  • Assist with focused nursing assessments and data collection under RN/physician/APP supervision
  • Perform post-operative wound checks, dressing changes, and basic wound care as appropriate to scope of practice
  • Administer medications, injections, and immunizations as ordered by physicians, APPs, and within LPN scope of practice
  • Assist with procedures and examinations specific to the specialty area
  • Monitor and document vital signs and patient responses to treatments
  • Recognize changes in patient condition and report promptly to supervise RN, physician or APP
  • Perform CLIA-waived laboratory tests as appropriate to scope of practice and clinic protocols
  • Conduct focused nursing visits for blood pressure monitoring, suture/staple removal, injection appointments, weight checks, and routine procedures within LPN scope
  • Assist RNs, physicians, and APPs with patient assessments and clinical procedures

 

Electronic Health Record Management & Communication

 

  • Monitor and respond to Epic InBasket messages and patient calls regarding non-urgent clinical questions within LPN scope and clinic protocols
  • Document all patient interactions, observations, and interventions accurately in Epic
  • Assist with coordination of referrals and appointments
  • Respond to patient portal messages for routine matters within established guidelines
  • Process routine prescription refill requests according to clinic protocols
  • Communicate patient concerns and clinical changes to supervise RN or physician

 

Patient Education & Support

 

  • Provide basic patient and family education on routine care topics within LPN scope
  • Reinforce education provided by RNs and physicians
  • Support patients with basic procedural preparation and discharge instructions
  • Provide emotional support and comfort measures to patients and families

 

Team Collaboration & Clinical Support

 

  • The employee supports the hospital mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures.
  • Work collaboratively under the supervision of RNs, physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants to ensure coordinated care
  • Communicate effectively with medical assistants and other support staff
  • Assist with patient flow and rooming patients as directed
  • Support examination room preparation and maintain adequate inventory of medical supplies
  • Assist front office operations including appointment scheduling and phone coverage as needed
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to care planning discussions

 

Quality & Compliance

 

  • Adhere to all clinic policies, procedures, and safety protocols
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements including OSHA, HIPAA, and DNV standards
  • Practice within LPN scope of practice as defined by state regulations
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical outcome measurements as appropriate
  • Ensure proper infection control practices and sterilization procedures as indicated
  • Contribute to maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and staff

 

General Support:

 

  • Position requires flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as patient care needs and clinic operations dictate
  • May be assigned to work across various medical specialties within the Good Shepherd Medical Group
  • Participates in required education for DNV programs as applicable to position. (reference program education curriculum).
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

Qualifications:

 

Education

                Required: Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing.

Licenses/ certifications/ registrations

Required: Current, unrestricted Oregon Licensed Practical Nurse license. Current BLS certification.

Preferred: Specialty certification relevant to assigned clinic area (e.g., CPN for Pediatrics, CGRN for Gastroenterology)

Experience

Required: The ability to work with a culturally diverse population. 

Preferred: Bilingual and/or English Spanish speaking. Minium 1-2 years of clinical nursing experience as an LPN. Experience with Epic electronic health record system. Experience in outpatient or clinic setting 

Other

Knowledge of computers, phones, and other office equipment. Knowledge of basic clinical equipment including but not limited to: EKG, vital sign monitoring devices, glucometer, scales, various lab testing equipment, etc. Strong observation and communication skills. Excellent verbal and written communication abilities. Ability to work effectively under supervision. Ability to work independently within defined scope and prioritize multiple tasks effectively. Understanding of LPN scope of practice and professional boundaries

 

Physical Requirements:

The physical and sensory functions described below are essential to the successful performance of this position. The role requires the ability to lift to 50 pounds independently and involves frequent pushing, pulling, carrying, or repositioning of objects or patients weighing up to 25 pounds. There may also be occasional lifting or transferring of individuals weighing over 100 pounds, with the expectation that appropriate lifting techniques, mechanical aids, or team assistance will be used to ensure safety. Working Conditions:

This position is performed primarily in an indoor healthcare environment, such as a hospital, clinic, or long-term care facility. While the work setting is protected from outdoor weather conditions, it may be subject to variable indoor temperatures. The role involves frequent exposure to infectious and contagious diseases, hazardous materials, and medical equipment, with the expectation that all staff follow appropriate safety protocols and utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

 

The health care environment can be fast-paced and unpredictable, requiring the ability to respond quickly to changing circumstances, including high-pressure or emergency situations. The work setting also involves multiple simultaneous demands and varying levels of noise due to medical equipment, staff activity, and patient needs.

If position requires IV therapy/management skills, the following is required in North Dakota: graduation from a Board approved AASPN program where IV therapy is part of the curriculum or completion of an IV Therapy course approved by the North Dakota Board of Nursing. Currently holds an unencumbered Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license with State Nursing board and/or possess multi-state licensure privileges. Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications.
