Our Med/Surg 5 unit is a 31-bed acute care setting that serves patients with a variety of medical conditions, monitors telemetry and is the hospitals designated chemotherapy department. Our unit is a great opportunity to gain experience in many types of patient populations that our community serves. The education for MS5 includes a 10-12 week precepted orientation which includes becoming both telemetry and chemotherapy certified. We take pride in being awarded the Team Daisy award twice in the last two years! We have a 24-hour charge RN to support the needs of our team and serve as a valuable resource to the staff. Our unit has a strong Shared Governance practice, and we encourage staff engagement and professional development.

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse is a practitioner who is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for an identified group of patients in an inpatient environment. This individual demonstrates competency in delivery of care to a primarily adult population. The Staff RN-Inpatient job description has incorporated essential functions which are adapted from the ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice, 2nd Edition (2010).

EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION:

Clinical competence and experience in the care and management of target patient populations specific to area of employment.

EDUCATION DESCRIPTION:

Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice at a level normally acquired through completion of education at an accredited School of Nursing in order to be eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse is required. Upon hire any non-BSN nurse with less than one year of licensed registered nurse experience will be required to enroll in a BSN (or higher nursing degree) program. Acceptance into a program is expected within 15 months of hire and the degree program must be completed within 5 years of enrollment, or 6 years if program is MSN, DNP or PhD in Nursing. Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is preferred.

LICENSURE DESCRIPTION:

Requires current state of Wisconsin Registered Nurse License or a Multi-state Nursing License from a participating state in the NLC (Nurse Licensure Compact). American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) or an AHA approved equivalent is required within 90 days of hire.

We Are Hiring: Registered Nurse (RN) - Oconomowoc Med/Surg 0.9 FTE (Nights) We are seeking compassionate and professional staff members to join the medical, surgical and orthopedic unit at Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital! Our second floor unit includes an Orthopedic Center for Excellence with a 24 bed unit focusing on for total hip, shoulder and knee replacements patients and cares for orthopedic fractures. We also serve a small medical population. Our three south unit includes an 11 bed unit with medical patients and general surgical patients. These patients include: sepsis, cardiac, stroke, renal, CHF, COPD, respiratory illnesses. The surgical population includes appendectomy, small bowel obstructions and various other surgeries. The Medical Surgical Unit at Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital is focused on the needs of the patient and helping one another to meet those needs. Our patient management on both units may include telemetry monitoring, continuous medication infusions, wounds, varieties of tubes and drains. There are approximately 60 staff members that include experienced and newer staff including, CNA’s, RN’s, and Unit Clerks. Supported by the Manager, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Nurse Educator and Operations Coordinator.
