QUALIFICATIONS

Required: Basic nursing skills; Terminology, theory, techniques and practices of professional nursing including the normal conditions of the specialty to which assigned; Concepts of medical, surgical asepsis and disease processes;  Effective communication skills in writing and speaking;  Skills essential to the position are efficiency in care management, flexibility with priorities and activity; Demonstrated skills in analyzing problems, decision-making, planning and implementing action; Knowledge of and ability to use specialized equipment for assigned unit; Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with patients and their families, physicians, and fellow co-workers; Demonstrate leadership abilities and be able to counsel and guide employees as necessary; Courteous and accountable, with maturity to accept responsibility for self;  Demonstrates active listening skills and is objective and impartial; Demonstrate a calm, sure demeanor and be able to prioritize appropriately in a multi-tasks, busy, acute care environment; Adaptive to a multi-cultural, multi-lingual patient and staff population.  

Preferred: BSN; PCCN; one year of acute care experience.

Lic/Reg/Cert:  Current Oregon RN license.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS  Must be in good general health, be able to frequently stoop, bend, and reach.  Must be able to withstand constant walking, standing, lifting at least 50 pounds or more, push/pull regulation hospital equipment, occasional sitting.  Must be able to function during periods of stress, trauma and/or disease. Demonstrate knowledge of and practice of safe body mechanics and willing to be flexible, within reason, to meet the staffing needs of an assigned unit.

  • Demonstrates a positive role in supporting, educating, and managing-up co-workers.
  • Effective, accurate and timely communication of problems and participation in resolution.
  • Initiates, supports, modifies and improves nursing practice in providing patient care as departmental goals / objectives change and as nursing practice dictates.
  • Regularly reviews work in progress to ensure care is proceeding as scheduled. Involves patient and families in education and preparation for discharge.
  • Takes personal accountability for ongoing professional development in partnership with department leadership.
  • Demonstrates the ability to prioritize and effectively utilize time management techniques.
