Work Shift: Fulltime and PRN positions. Call required (fulltime).

Summary of the Job:  

Surgical Technologists functions as members of the surgical team in the role of a scrub person. They work under the supervision of a RN to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive and surgical procedures maximizing patient safety and sterile technique with the application of AORN and professional standards. The Surgical Technologist is responsible to prepare and handle the instrumentation, supplies, and devices necessary for the surgical procedure.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Graduate of an accredited school of Surgical Technology. One (1) year experience is preferred or STHS experience through the Surgical Tech Educational affiliate program. Acute Care OR preferred. Current BLS certification through any International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) provided courses such as but not limited to: Ochsner Health System, American Heart Association, and American Red Cross. The ILCOR course must include a manikin check off. Call is required according to unit standards. Good communication skills and able to make decisions.

The Surgery Surgical Technologist must be available in-house within 30 minutes when on call. 

Preferred Qualifications:

Surgical Technology Certification (CST) preferred.

Physical Demands:     

Must possess good physical health. Some requirements include but are not limited to standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time. Lifting at least 50 pounds is required. Must be able to work with a moderate level of noise.

Physical Effort required:        

Constant (67%-100%) - reaching, handling/feeling, talking, hearing, seeing

Frequently (34%-66%)- NONE

Occasionally (1%-33%)– lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, stooping, crouching
