Here’s What You Need

  • H.S. Diploma or equivalent required
  • PCT Training Program TX CNA, NHA, NAHP and NCCT or a THR approved program. Not required to maintain certification when applicable after hire. Upon Hire Required or
  • EMT - Emergency Medical Technician Military experience with medical training equivalent (Equivalent to EMT-B) Upon Hire Required or
  • Nursing student who has completed fundamentals or foreign nurse degree program. Upon Hire Required or
  • 1 year of applicable experience in lieu of an active and approved certification Upon Hire Required and
  • Medical/Surgical hospital experience preferred
  • BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly Required
  • CPI - Crisis Prevention Intervention Training Maintained Annually within 90 Days Required
  • Possesses organizational skills to function in a fast-paced work environment, positive interpersonal skills, and good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Nursing Students who do not complete course of study in nursing but having completed their Fundamentals Training and EMTs who do not formally retain their EMT status may continue in role if they have consistently demonstrated skills in their PCT position.

What You Will Do

Texas Health Frisco Patient Care Techs (PCT) are responsible for providing an excellent patient healthcare experience at each Texas Health site. Provide basic patient care under direction of nursing staff. Perform duties such as feed, bathe, dress, groom, or move patients, or change linens. May transfer or transport patients. Includes nursing care attendants, nursing aides, and nursing attendants.

Care Of Patient/Technical Skills

  • Provides assistance to patient according to plan of care.
  • Collects patient data, identifies and reports significant findings to nurse.
  • Assists in admission/transfer/discharge.
  • Provides and Revises patient activities of daily living based on patient/family preferences.
  • Performs technical procedures safely and proficiently.
  • Takes action to reduce or eliminate patient risk.
  • Enters orders into computer or manual system if applicable.
  • Documents accurately and appropriately.
  • In collaboration/consultation with the nurse, adapts care to reflect patient population.
  • In collaboration/consultation with nurse, incorporates cultural/religious needs and beliefs into delivery of care.
  • Keeps patient environment clean and maintains safe environment.
  • Anticipates patient/family and visitor needs and takes action to meet those needs and rounds as appropriate

Seeks and utilizes direction from more experienced staff and team members as needed. May work with other staff in providing direction to non-nursing staff. Participates in information exchanges with nursing and other Parkland staff that support the standards, missions, goals, and objectives of the assigned Med/Surg department and Parkland. Identifies ways to improve work process and improve patient and customer satisfaction. Makes recommendations to supervisor, implements and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals of the assigned Med/Surg department and Parkland. Prepares and conducts an in-service educational program for the assigned Med/Surg department, at least once per year. Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements and trends in nursing practice by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals and actively participating in professional organizations. Maintains State of Texas Licensure as a Registered Nurse, plus any additional required licensures/certifications. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices. Serves as a preceptor or trainer to newer nursing staff members. Serves as a Charge Nurse on rotation as necessary.
