The University of Iowa Health Care Walk-In Clinics is seeking a 90-100% (36-40 hours a week) Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners (ARNP) to support our Urgent Care/QuickCare Clinics. Our Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners (ARNPs) perform direct patient care, including diagnostic and therapeutic services within our Walk-in Clinics. UI Walk-in Clinics provide care to try to save our patients a trip to the emergency room. We’re open evenings, weekends, and even some holidays. Our clinics are responsible to assess a wide variety of patients from newborn to geriatric and ensures patient care standards are met and provide access to additional care options not normally found at your traditional walk-in clinic, including X-rays, IV fluids, and stitches. This position is part of a dynamic and fast paced environment, rich with opportunities for learning and growth. We utilize a multidisciplinary approach to patient care that encourages teamwork between multiple disciplinary teams to provide the most comprehensive care to our patients. We have multiple clinics throughout the corridor area, as well as two locations in the Quad Cities, allowing our patients to find a location that is convenient to them.

This position will mainly support our Iowa City/Corridor sites but could also support other service lines/clinics based on clinical needs/hours, including Quad Cities clinic sites.

Basic Function And Responsibility

Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners (ARNP) will exercise autonomy in medical decision making and services provided. The ARNP will also assist in educating healthcare students, as they rotate through the respective departments and divisions and will assist in research endeavors as appropriate. This position reports to the Medical Director within the UI Community Clinics and Lead APP within UI Community Clinics.

Characteristic Duties And Responsibilities

  • Provide care responsibilities in both our QuickCare and Urgent Care Clinics, will rotate clinical sites.
  • Obtain medical history and perform physical examination.
  • Assess, assist, diagnose and treat medical or surgical problems and record findings.
  • Perform or assist in and interpret the performance of laboratory and related studies.
  • Perform therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunizations, the suturing and care of wounds, removal of foreign bodies, ear and eye irrigation and other clinical procedures.
  • Assist in arranging for continued care such as but not limited to: transfer to the Emergency Treatment Center; follow-up care or establishment of care with a primary care provider; and/or follow-up consultations (including referrals to appropriate specialty and subspecialty physicians as indicated by patients’ problems).
  • Perform and screen results of special medical exams including but not limited to electrocardiogram, radiography, audiometric and vision screening, tonometry, and pulmonary function screening tests.
  • Instruct and counsel patients regarding physical and mental health on matters such as diets, disease, therapy, and normal growth and development.
  • Evaluate, treat and institute procedures essential to providing an appropriate response to urgent medical problems.
  • Maintain awareness of health facilities, agencies and resources in order to facilitate the appropriate referral of patients.
  • Order medications and administer drugs.
  • Direct other medical personnel and health professionals in the execution of patient care.
  • Perform duties appropriate to a physician’s practice.
  • Participate in educating health care students in various programs.
  • Participate in committees within the division, department, College of Medicine and University of Iowa Health Care.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the public.

Percent of Time: 90-100% (36-40 hours per week)

Schedule: Variable work hours between 7:00 AM – 9:30 PM Monday through Friday, and Saturday and Sunday 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM, rotating weekend and holiday time, no on-call time, clinical location could change based on the clinic need/hour.

Locations: Iowa City/Corridor locations and surrounding clinic locations including Quad Cities area (as needed).

Salary: $85,080 - $153,685 ($40.90 hourly minimum) Salary is based on years of experience and FTE.

Position Qualifications

Education Required:

ARNP: Master's degree is required. A Master's degree in Nursing is preferred. If Master's degree is in a related field, a Baccalaureate degree in nursing is required.

Certifications

  • Current license to practice in Iowa is required. Current certification in specialty area and licensure as an ARNP in the state of Iowa is required.
  • FNP Certification.
