Jasper, Ga Personal Care Assistant (PCA) or Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA)

Position:  Personal Care Attendant (PCA)

Reports to: HR Manager

Job Summary: Provide supportive and personal services for the clients with consideration of dignity and privacy. Provide personal care and hygiene to personal assistance clients.

Qualifications/Educational Requirements:  

  • Graduate of an accredited High School or equivalent preferred.

  • Ability read, write and follow directions.

  • At least 18 years of age and has demonstrated competency.

  • Work positively and favorably with clients, families, and staff.

  • Applicant must never have been shown by credible evidence (e.g. a court or jury, a department investigation, or other reliable evidence) to have abused, neglected, sexually assaulted, exploited, or deprived any person or to have subjected any person to serious injury as a result of intentional or grossly negligent misconduct as evidenced by an oral or written statement to this effect obtained at the time of application.

  • Demonstrate compassion, responsibility, and cheerful attitude.

  • Successful completion of a nurse aide training and competency evaluation program pursuant to the requirements of 42 CFR Part 483, Subpart D, as revised or recodifies, if applicable; or

  • successful completion of a competency examination for nurse aides recognized by the department; or

  • successful completion of a health care or personal care credentialing program recognized and approved by the department; or

  • successful completion or progress in the completion of a 40 hour training program provided by a private home care provider, which addresses at least the following areas:

  • Ambulation and transfer of clients, including positioning;

  • Assistance with bathing, toileting, grooming, shaving, dental care, dressing, and eating;

  • Basic first aid and CPR;

  • Caring for clients with special conditions and needs so long as the services are within the scope of the tasks authorized to be performed by demonstration;

  • Home management;

  • Home safety and sanitation;

  • Infection control in the home;

  • Medically related activities to include the taking of vital signs; and

  • Proper nutrition.


Responsibilities/essential functions: The person in this position must be able to perform the following essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations.

  • Follows the instructions of the Personal Care Aide Supervisor in providing personal assistance services.*                                                

  • Provide assistance with hygiene such as bathing, oral care, and dressing.*

  • Assist with food preparation; serve food, performs errands, light housekeeping, laundry, wash dishes.*

  • Have knowledge of agency policy and procedures.*

  • Perform and record accurate measurements (i.e. vital signs, or intake/output as instructed in the care plans). *

  • Observe and report any safety hazards found in the client’s home or any significant observations regarding the client.*

  • Attend staff meetings, attend/complete 12 hours of annual in-services, and participates in orientation of new employees. *

  • Report client complaints to the Personal Care Aide Supervisor. *

  • Be trained in first aid.*

  • Maintain client confidentiality/adheres to HIPAA requirements and agency policy and procedures manual. *

  • Possess the ability to follow written and oral instructions. *

  • Report abnormal findings in client’s conditions as observed and per service plan to Personal Care Aide Supervisor. *

Environmental Elements
Employee works in an office environment sometimes with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions and sometimes travels to patients homes where they may have direct exposure to hazardous substances. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.

Employee will have to travel to a variety of client homes and perform in conditions that vary greatly depending upon the client’s home environment. Some homes will be clean, neat, and maintained at a comfortable temperature. Other homes may be cluttered, dirty, with an uncomfortable temperature.
