2 West is comprised of a 23 bed Med Surg Unit and a 23 bed Post- Surgical Unit. We have a very friendly staff who are welcoming and willing to mentor new RNs. We handle medium to high acuity patients with a 5 to 6 patient ratio. Our team is passionate about patient care and shared governance.

Scope of work

The RN, under the ANA scope of practice utilizes the framework of the nursing process to provide professional nursing care by incorporating patient-family centered care principles to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and discharge. The RN provides quality patient care under the direction of the Nurse Leader according to Corewell Health policies and procedures and recognizes the impact of nursing care and patient/family partnerships on patient outcomes. The RN partners with and utilizes patient/family input and goals in planning plan of care and develops teaching strategies for patient/family; documents education and learning appropriately in health record.

Qualifications

  • Associates in Nursing Required
  • Bachelors in Nursing Required within 5 years
  • Graduates from a non-accredited school of nursing must have at least one year of acute care experience or at least two years of experience in a licensed health care role and must have successfully passed the NCLEX licensure examination.
  • MI Registered Nurse (RN) Required
  • AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Required upon hire
  • Specialty Certification highly recommended within 2 years

Job Summary The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is a 30-bed monitored ICU located on the 10th floor of the new C.S. Mott Children's Hospital. The unit is multi-acuity ranging from critically ill to short stay observation. Multidisciplinary care is provided for children from newborn to young adult in partnership with Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, Pediatric Surgery, Pediatric Neurosurgery, Vascular Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Otolaryngology, Plastic Surgery, Hematology/Oncology, BMT, Nephrology, Transplant Surgery, and Pediatric Cardiology. Total patient care is utilized as 6Cs nursing care delivery system. Within this system, RNs assume the role of Patient Care Coordinator responsible for planning patient care from admission to discharge. Types of patients treated on 6C include pulmonary patients present with compromise of the cardiopulmonary system. Many of the patient population on 6C are transferred to this unit from the adjacent Critical Care Medicine Unit. These patients can often be a challenge to your nursing skills in the areas of assessment and clinical intervention.
