Department Overview 14C Medicine is a 31 bed acute care medicine unit. The 14C Medicine unit provides service to patient populations ages 18-100+ who have a variety of medical, acute care diagnoses and some cardiac conditions, such as atrial arrhythmias and NSTEMI cases. Patients require acute medical and nursing interventions such as intravenous fluids, tube feedings, pain management, respiratory care, including tracheostomy and stable ventilators, cystic fibrosis, antibiotics administration, diabetes management, heart failure care, endocarditis therapy, detox, behavioral and/or crisis management. Unit Vision : "We will provide exceptional care as a collaborative team that honors, respects and values our patients as well as each other" 14C is one of two units that admit psychiatric patients with medical issues which cannot be managed on the inpatient psychiatric unit (1NW). This would include patients on court holds, suicidal ideation; and other psychiatric diagnoses with an overlaying medical condition. Creating a safe environment for this population requires frequent monitoring, documenting and assessment and knowledgeable medication management.
