Responsibilities

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

May perform the duties and responsibilities of the Staff Registered Nurse for a specific patient population. Makes daily staff work assignments based on patient acuity and clinical competence of staff. May recommend staffing requirements for the next shift. Makes patient rounds, evaluates nursing/unit activities, sets patient care priorities and recommends operational changes to enhance services of the unit. Supervises nursing/patient care staff, including orienting, training, counseling, and evaluating. Interprets and communicates hospital and division nursing philosophy, policies, procedures, and established standards of care and practice. Assists in the development of department goals, objectives, policies and procedures. Maintains adequate supplies, equipment, etc. for operations of unit. Makes appropriate recommendations to control the operational budget. Participates in the unit Quality Improvement activities. Coordinates admissions and discharges. Serves as a communication liaison between patients, families, staff, and physicians, and reports critical consequences of actions taken to Manager or Director. Complies with hospital and professional license, certification, in‑service, and training requirements, and committee and conference participation as appropriate for position. Maintains familiarity with nursing care issues relating to medical problems, surgical procedures, and diagnostic studies, and technical training in the use of equipment pertinent to area. Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/visitor/patient injury‑accident to Manger or Director.

Qualifications

REQUIRED:

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing:
    • Three (3) years’ experience in clinical area with a minimum of one (1) year in area of specialty OR
    • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing with two (2) years of experience in clinical area with a minimum of one (1) year in area of specialty
  • Current license in the State of Georgia as a Registered Nurse or Nurse Compact (NLC/eNLC) or Multistate license
  • Must hold Certified in American Heart Association’s Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS).
  • Visual color acuity depending on the role in specific units.

PREFERRED:

  • Additional Life Support credential (ACLS, PALS, NRP, etc.) or other clinical specialty certifications in specific units.

Work Hours:

6:45AM-3:15PM
