Cedarhurst, a regional healthcare provider and true friend of older adults, seeks a service-minded, career-oriented individual to join our team as a full-time Regional Nurse Specialist for our organization. 
 
This position requires frequent overnight travel
 
As a Regional Nurse Specialist, you will have to opportunity to connect with and positively impact the lives of our residents daily! This includes running a successful community, but also understanding the importance of leadership, dedication, and putting the needs of the residents and community staff first.
In this role, you will be reporting directly to the Regional Director of Nursing, and you will be responsible for assessing and monitoring of Community person-directed care and nursing practices and compliance in accordance with Federal, State and Local regulations within Cedarhurst communities in the absence of a Director of Nursing (DON). You will also assist with the development and implementation of nursing policies, procedures, and quality initiatives while supporting each Community and regional Resident Care & Compliance Teams within your region, in optimizing each resident’s well-being and overall experience. Your duties also include the assessment and implementation of clinical practices within each Community within your region, including during the acquisition and opening of new communities.
As a Regional Nurse Specialist, you will impact the lives of our residents by –
  • Assists in the development and monitoring of person-directed resident care and nursing policies, procedures, and resources that are in accordance with Federal, State and Local regulations.
  • Leads the clinical survey preparedness process of existing Communities and the auditing and implementation of organizational practices during the acquisition and opening of new communities.
  • Participates in meetings such as Resident Care & Compliance Teams and transition planning meetings for upcoming acquisitions and new communities.
  • Collaborates with department team members to set regional-wide quality improvement goals and initiatives on an ongoing basis and revises as needed.
  • Provide support for regional-wide clinical initiatives such as the electronic health records system.
  • Assist with the preparation of the departmental annual budget and maintains the operating budgets for personnel and medical equipment in the absence of a Director of Nursing.
  • In the absence of the Director of Nursing, the (TBD) will be responsible for the overall care plan and nursing practices of the facility.
  • Oversee the delivery of quality care and services to our residents in compliance with the regulations pertaining to care plans and resident assessments within assigned communities.
  • Directly oversee the delivery of care to residents to ensure that emotional, physical, psychological and safety needs are met through all program services and activities in the absence of a DON.
  • Oversee and implement infection control, pharmaceutical and physical/chemical restraining policies and procedures, and assures that committee recommendations are carried out.
  • Assist with staffing, leading, developing, and retaining a high performing resident care team within assigned communities.
  •  Function as a liaison between the residents, their families, staff and the general public - responding to inquiries and providing information on nursing care and services.
  • Assess potential residents for assisted living level of care as well as those residents returning from a leave for appropriate placement and level of care within assigned communities.
  • Develop nursing service objectives, policies and procedures and directs the implementation of these objectives.
  • Manage and coordinate the work of all nursing and caregiver staff, communicating pertinent resident health and safety information.
  • Demonstrates competence in the area of culture change and regulatory compliance, ensuring that each community states in regulatory compliance with all regulatory agencies.
  • Provides leadership in such a manner that represents key servant leadership principles, including effective listening, empathy, awareness, and persuasiveness.
  • Oversee the direct training of new DON within assigned region, act as a mentor to existing DONs.
  • Attends corporate sponsored meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Ensure that company standards and policies are well maintained.
  • Strive to maintain a safe working environment through the prevention of accidents, the preservation of equipment, and the achievement of safe working practices.
  • Maintain a positive and professional demeanor toward residents, visitors, families, and co-workers.
  • Ability to travel overnight as needed with occasional excessive travel.
  • Other duties as assigned.
To become a Regional Nurse Specialist, you will need –
  • 4-6 years of past experience.
  • Applicable State licensure, required.
  • 3 years of nursing experience in a senior care community with proven leadership and organizational skills, RN or LPN license required.
  • Demonstrated compliance with State and Local regulations as well as professional standards and practices.
  • Proven experience in staffing, leading, developing, and retaining a strong resident care and nursing teams.
  • Demonstrates excellent observation, assessment, and nursing judgment.
  • Must possess a general knowledge of laws and restrictions regarding Assisted Living care, as well as a solid understanding of opportunities and limits of other levels of care within senior living.
  • Thoroughness & detail oriented.
  • Goal- and result-oriented, as well as self-motivated.
  • Superior analytical, project management and organizational skills.
  • Sense of professional curiosity, desire to learn new things, and to find / recommend solutions to problems
  • Great communication and interpersonal skills required along with the heart and passion to work with older adults while providing the best care possible.
  • Must have the ability to remain calm in stressful situations, to be flexible, to work well with many interruptions and have skill in multi-tasking.
  • Superior time management skills.
  • Must possess strong knowledge of laws and restrictions regarding Assisted Living and Memory Care, as well as a solid understanding of opportunities and limits of other levels of care within senior living.
  • Respect for the principles of resident rights, including privacy and confidentiality.
  • Must exhibit and promote a high level of customer service, hospitality, curiosity and friendliness towards all residents, visitors, employees, and the overall facility.
