Wound Care and Ent Spec Registered Nurse

Franciscan Health Olympia Fields Campus 20201 S Crawford Ave Olympia Fields, Illinois 60461 The Wound Care and Enterostomal Specialist RN is responsible for providing total comprehensive nursing to patients and their families through the development of a plan of care, including implementing, reassessing, evaluating and revising the plan of care. The RN develops these patient-specific plans by performing psychosocial/physiologic assessments, considering patients' cultural/ ethical/ spiritual needs, reviewing trends of similar patients, as well as considering physicians' orders regarding care. The RN integrates knowledge, skills, and experiences to meet the needs of patients and families throughout the continuum of care to include patient and family education, and actively supports and incorporates nursing regulations and standards, as well as Franciscan Alliance processes and procedures in daily practice. This position has expanded knowledge and certification in wound care, continence, and enterostomal therapy and as such, delivers wound, skin, enterostomal therapy and ostomy nursing care. The RN develops programs for the education of patients, families, and staff within the specialty area. Stoma Measurement Visits patients' pre and post operatively to assess for stoma measurement for placement, stoma care needs and to teach stoma self-care. Provides consultation services for unresolved patient care issues. Arranges for stoma and ostomy care equipment and supplies for discharge planning. Sharp Debridement Performs conservative sharp debridement, defined as removal of loose avascular tissue without pain or bleeding. Skin Breakdown Risk Assessment Identifies high-risk patients in the facility for skin breakdown and serves as a liaison to the physician and nursing staff to initiate a plan of care with appropriate measures for prevention.
