Job Duties

A. Patient Medications and Med Room Responsibilities

• Follows policy related to medication administration 100% of the time, and documents 100% of medication errors via Medication Incident Report.

• Accurately dispenses medications as prescribed.

• Administers medication to patients.

• Documents medication consumed and refusal in the Electronic Health Record.

• Educates patients on medications prescribed.

• Observes patients and chart changes in patient condition, such as adverse reactions to medication or treatment, and taking any necessary action.

• Maintains EHR documentation and reports as directed by the RN

• Monitors medication room needs and supplies, checking expiration dates, and ordering supplies as necessary.

• Monitors medical equipment in med room and documents the need for repairs/ replacement as needed.

B. Direct Care

• Identifies and provides patient care needs using recovery and trauma informed care principles, and reports observations to appropriate personnel and/or documents in EHR.

• Provides direct patient care duties as assigned, including sitting 1:1, especially to ensure PCTs are able to take breaks as appropriate.

• Implements all individual treatment plans as written.

• Assists RN in processing new admissions and discharges as assigned

• Participates and assists in patient therapy and active groups.

C. Milieu Management

• Build therapeutic relationships with patient that promote approved treatment plan.

• Assists with interventions and behavioral emergencies, using TOVA principles and other safety tools in order to maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and staff, observing and reporting/ documenting events accurately.

• Assists RN with supervision of PCTs by providing work direction and serving as a role model.

• Complete nursing monitoring and documentation per RN direction.

• Assists RN with supervision of unit milieu ensuring treatment plans are being followed.

D. Training

• Takes responsibility to attend all mandatory trainings required by the center and/or supervisor as scheduled.

• Ensure all Knowledge Center mandatory trainings are completed during the evaluation period.

• Attends trainings as recommended by supervisor for professional growth and/or to earn or maintain required certifications and licensing.

• Ensures Training is current and demonstrates proficiency in the following core competencies: TOVA, First Aid/CPR.

E. Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• Knowledge of illness and treatment modalities esp to include medication management

• Ability to implement nursing care plan and provide guidance to Psychiatric Care Techs as necessary

• Computer skills and ability to document without error in the Electronic Health Record required

• Skilled at communicating with a young patient population with special needs

• Able to communicate effectively at all levels across treatment teams and within nursing department

• Demonstrated knowledge of mental health psychiatric diagnosis, trauma-informed care, and treatments
