Ambulatory Endoscopy Center of Maryland is an outpatient endoscopic facility specializing in colonoscopy flexible sigmoidoscopy and upper endoscopy. We have three GI procedure rooms with state-of-the art safety and diagnostic equipment, including the addition of Carbon Dioxide (Co2) Insufflation during colonoscopy. We are committed to safe, high-quality, patient-centered care delivered by a highly engaged team. This is a Per Diem Position - Monday and Friday.  Expected hours: 9 – 18 per week, depending on staffing needs. We are asking that all candidates be able to commit to at least two shifts/month. Pay: $42.00 - $44.00 per hour 
Position Summary:
Pre-op duties include preparing a patient both physically and mentally before an endoscopy, sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy procedure, including taking medical history, verifying consent, administering pre-medication, point of care testing, providing instructions on bowel preparation if necessary, IV placement and monitoring the patient's vital signs prior to the procedure. The ideal candidate will also provide high-quality care to patients recovering from anesthesia, ensuring their safety and comfort during the critical recovery period. Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Essential Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities:
• Uses equipment effectively following manufacturer’s instruction for use
• Uses proper techniques and procedures according to accepted standards of practice
• Assists with inventory of supplies, drugs, and equipment to maintain availability and stock levels in the admission area
• Maintains order and cleanliness of PreOp/Admitting area
• Actively participates as a team member in support of the total pre-anesthesia care process
• Per Center Policy, uses two patient identifiers, identifies and validates the patient and procedure to be performed
• Works collaboratively with the healthcare team to prepare the pre-procedure area
• Provides comfort and reassurance to patient
• Maintains patient’s privacy and dignity
• Utilizes the nursing process to perform safe and individualized nursing care throughout the pre-procedure process
• Administers medication(s) per order of physician
• Accurately comprehends and interprets physician orders and direction
• Works collaboratively with the healthcare team to ensure continuity of patient care
• Evaluates patient condition and maintains accurate documentation during pre-anesthesia period
• Using the nursing assessment, monitors, and reports any observed abnormalities to the other members of the
healthcare team
• Documents patient-care records and other forms accurately, legibly and in a timely manner, following policies and
procedures
• Develops a plan of care, based on patient needs, related to the planned procedure and type of anesthesia
• Assesses the physical and emotional status of the patient in preparation of the planned procedure
• Reviews post-procedure instructions with patient and responsible adult
• Determines and documents patient and responsible adult understanding of the discharge instructions and indications
for seeking emergent care
• Organizes time, equipment, supplies, and personnel to provide effective and efficient case management
• Organizes nursing activities efficiently and effectively
• Assesses each patient for fall precautions and addresses per Center policy
• Assists or supervises patients attire change (as necessary)
• Considers cost containment by using supplies economically and by managing efficient turnover time
• Assists with supplies, drugs, and equipment inventories to maintain stock level and availability; maintains order and
cleanliness of pre-procedure area(s)
• Transports patients as needed, observing policies, procedures, and safety requirements
• Attends all required education
• Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned

Position Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited or state board of nursing approved Registered/Professional Nursing program if less than a year of experience.
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
  • MD State licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) Required.
  • Required BLS/ACLS
  • Good IV skills needed.
  • Ambulatory surgery center: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Demonstrates basic computer skills (for an EMR).
