Surgical Tech Full-time

A Surgical Technologist plays a critical role in the operating room, assisting surgeons and the surgical team to ensure the safe and effective care of patients undergoing surgery. This position requires strong attention to detail, a commitment to patient safety, and a thorough understanding of surgical procedures and protocols.



Key Competencies & Responsibilities


  • Aseptic Technique and Patient Safety:

    • Maintain impeccable aseptic technique to prevent hospital-acquired infections.

    • Perform a thorough surgical scrub and maintain a sterile field throughout all procedures.

    • Prepare the operating room, ensuring all necessary instruments, equipment, and supplies are sterilized and ready for use.

    • Properly discard contaminated and hazardous materials according to hospital policy.

    • Maintain a working knowledge of surgical procedures, instruments, supplies, and equipment.

    • Ensure the operating room is stocked and ready for each case.

  • Surgical Assistance:

    • Assist the operating surgeon under direct supervision.

    • Prioritize and prepare for specific operative procedures using appropriate case requisitions.

    • Respond appropriately to unanticipated or emergency situations that may arise during surgery, including assisting with patient CPR during cardiac arrest.

  • Equipment and Inventory Management:

    • Operate equipment properly, following manufacturer recommendations and OR protocols.

    • Ensure all equipment is cleaned and maintained for use by other staff and patients.

    • Report any issues with equipment or supplies promptly.

  • Procedural Adherence:

    • Adhere to all established hospital policies, procedures, and directives.

    • Follow quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.



Education & Experience


  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Graduate of a surgical technology program accredited by either the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES).



Credentials & Qualifications


  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).

  • CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) certification from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).

  • Certification must be obtained within 90 days of employment.
