The new St. Michael’s progressive care unit has the latest in equipment. Many of our rooms have ceiling lifts. Our teams are supported by respiratory therapy physical and occupational therapy pharmacy on the units rapid response team case management on the units and a team of engaged physicians. JOB SUMMARY

This 32 bed telemetry monitored unit houses PCU level of care with some medical/telemetry overflow as well. This is our primary stroke unit that also manages respiratory and cardiac patients. This unit is staffed at a 1:3-4 patient ratio consistent with national standards of care.

This job is responsible for providing a wide variety of professional nursing services which focus on the provision of quality patient care consistent with Franciscan Health System (FHS) standards/values, applicable regulatory requirements and scope of practice for the nursing profession.  Work also includes developing, implementing and assessing the patient plan of care during time of stay in collaboration with physicians, interdisciplinary teams, and the patient/family.  An incumbent is engaged in direct patient care, including assessing, planning, coordinating, evaluating and delegating work to members of the patient care team, and for providing education and consultation with patients, families, physicians and other staff members in implementing appropriate nursing interventions for optimal patient care.   

Work is performed under standards of safety and care that provide instruction/guidance for taking care of issues and patient needs in the absence of a physician.  Requires the use of judgment and critical thinking skills in making decisions regarding patient care (within the scope of practice), including knowledge and integration of available standards, resources and data, and in the efficient utilization of staff/resources.  Work involves continuous contact with physicians, patients, patient families, community agencies, patient care staff and management.  An incumbent is accountable for the quality of care provided to patients, and has the authority to direct care, provide education, seek resources at the unit/department level, and delegate appropriate tasks.

This job exists in multiple locations, and while there may be minor differences in job content depending on the assigned work unit, they are not significant for classification purposes.  Overall, the nature of the work and job requirements is consistent between locations

This position is responsible for providing care to the patient who is hemodynamically compromised and requires monitoring of multiple systems and/or nursing interventions every two to four hours.

Essential Duties

  • Provides continuous cardiac monitoring arrhythmia recognition and intervention. 
  • Initiates and titrates multiple complex cardiac related infusions at higher doses. 
  • Manages high flow & bipap patients. 
  • Manages patients with acute neurological/neurosurgical events.

 EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing BSN preferred.
  • One year of related work experience in an acute care setting preferred
  • Previous PCU/ICU experience preferred or 1-2 years med/surg experience required or New graduate with completion of senior practicum in a specialty area i.e.: Critical Care, ED, PACU or For those with no PCU/ICU experience, must successfully complete the PCU residency or the critical care residency program. 

LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse issued by the Washington State Board of Nursing. 
  • Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS Certification. Please be advised that this location requires quarterly American Heart Association (AHA) Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) competency certification post-hire. This ongoing competency is required through resources internal to the facility; outside RQI competency resources are not acceptable for CommonSpirit Health compliance requirements.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or attainment within six months of hire and 
  • CCRN AND CNRN preferred
