Copley Hospital, located in Morrisville/Stowe VT, is in search of a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our team at Mansfield Orthopaedics!

Mansfield Orthopaedics offers a comprehensive range of evidence-based medicine and proven treatments and techniques that consider the patients’ wishes and preferences. Many of our orthopaedic Providers and Staff  are active athletes and outdoor enthusiasts, making us particularly well-suited to serve the active, 4-season lifestyle of our patients. We are sensitive to patients’ desire to regain their mobility and get back to doing the things they love as soon as possible. We are currently seeking a hand trained Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join our dynamic team in our Waterbury and Morrisville Offices. Mansfield Orthopaedics, a Practice of Copley Hospital, has locations in both Morrisville and Waterbury Vermont. Our Morrisville Location is located on our Copley Hospital’s Campus in Lamoille County, in north-central Vermont.  Vermont is well known for its outdoor sporting activities including skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, mountain biking, hiking, boating, horseback riding, soaring, ATV riding and leisurely walking paths. 

Our Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners assist our Surgeons in both the clinic setting and as first assistants in the operating room. In clinic, this care includes managing your own panel of patients, to include: history taking, physical exams, diagnosing, prescribing, creating treatment plans and ordering the appropriate use of ancillary services.  Call responsibility is first call at a 1:6 call rotation.  4/10 hour work days make up this full time work week.

This is a Full-Time position (PT available).

Responsibilities

  • Order, perform and collect (when appropriate) laboratory or diagnostic procedures and studies, including, but not limited to, body fluids and tissue specimens.  Ordering and/or performing diagnostic studies including, but not limited to, ECG, EMG, compartment pressures, x-ray, and special studies including CT, MRI, bone scans (DEXA).
  • Performs procedures including, but not limited to, digital nerve blocks, regional anesthesia, minor outpatient surgical procedures such as (but not limited to) tendon repair, wound closure, wound management, wound debridement, incision and drainage, pinning, k-wire removal and other hardware removal.
  • Performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including, but not limited to joint and bursa aspirations, closed reduction of fractures and dislocations, injections of joints, tendons, trigger points and bursa, as well as brace, cast and splint applications.
  • Surgical first assist to include usual and customary surgical procedures for the facility where licensed, to include (but not limited to) deep and superficial tissue closures, appliance applications or any other surgical application delegated by the orthopaedic surgeon.  Conduct surgical follow-ups, hospital rounds, write orders, taking call as required.  Evaluate and clarify clinical signs and symptoms, formulate and implement a treatment plan and/or therapeutic plan for inpatients, dictate discharge summaries, histories and physicals.
  • Authorization to order, prescribe, dispense, and administer medications that are within the Orthopaedic scope of practice. Authorization to prescribe the controlled substances under schedules: 2, 2N, 3, 3N, 4 and 5.
  • Evaluate, screen and counsel patients on health maintenance and promote and assist patient in utilizing community services whenever appropriate, participate in IRB approved research studies, manage databases and perform quality assurance.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree.
  • Three to five years experience in direct patient care required. One to two years’ experience in expanded nursing role i.e. completing physical exams preferred.
  • Registered Nurse with endorsement as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse with prescriptive authority from the Vermont Board of Nursing. The Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant should be licensed by the Drug Enforcement Administration.
