Position Responsibilities

·       Prepares the OR suite appropriately to receive a new admission.

·       Evaluates, assesses and documents patient’s surgical status.

·       Assists anesthesia in maintaining intake and output, checks availability of blood products and checks blood products with anesthesia before administering.  Document blood administration and assures accuracy.

·       Demonstrates ability to handle difficult situations, and appropriate usage of safety measures.

·       Monitors, evaluates and intervenes appropriately with patients receiving conscious sedation.

·       Competent in application of safety positioning devices, providing ongoing observation, intervention and documentation as per hospital policy.

·       Maintains thorough knowledge of operation, care and handling of O.R equipment. Demonstrates ability to perform new procedures, skills and routines in specialty areas.

·       Performs initial vital signs and admission history to include introduction to patient and family. Assessment of chief compliant and notification of physician within 15 minutes of arrival to procedure area.

·       Obtains and documents an accurate systems assessment at the beginning of each procedure.

·       Responds to diagnostic data and initiates appropriate action or intervention.

·       Assesses patient education needs on admission, and psychosocial needs specific to patients age, growth, and development.

·       Initiates plan of care within eight hours of admission. Establishes priorities for patient care based on patient needs as evidence by completion of assigned duties within shift.

·       Performs Pre-Operative and Post-Operative care and instruction for each assigned surgical patient during shift.

·       Performs dressing changes using aseptic technique.

·       Collects and labels specimens per policy when ordered by physician.

·       Performs bedside glucose monitoring according to policy, performs ostomy care to include irrigation, appliance usage and reinforcement of teaching.

·       Inserts intermittent or indwelling urinary catheter using aseptic technique.

·       Administers oxygen therapy according to physician order.

·       Transfer patients in/out of the GI station in an efficient manner, by obtaining a complete and correct set of physician orders. Completes documentation of transfer summary.

·       All other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

·       Current FL RN License

·       BLS required

·       CNOR preferred

·       Minimum of one year of experience scrubbing and circulating through various service lines. CNOR certification highly beneficial.

Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible.
