Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) PURPOSE: The purpose of this position is to provide direct care to residents, under the supervision of a licensed nurse, in accordance with the facility policies and procedures and report resident needs and concerns to a licensed nurse. EDUCATION /KNOWLEDGE: Must be a graduate of an approved Nursing Assistant Training Program, or be eligible to enter such a program, graduate and pass a state approved competency test (written & skills) within 120 days from the date of employment. Prior experience as a care provider is preferred. Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant. Must possess the ability to deal effectively with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies and the general public under all conditions. Must be willing to follow directions. Must be dependable in attendance and available by telephone and/or meggsage phone number on reasonable notice. DELEGATION OF AUTHORITY: Authority is delegated to the individual in this position to: 1) provide care to residents following facility policies and procedures 2) report residents' needs and concerns to a licensed nurse DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Follow written and oral directions Follow established performance standards and perform duties according to nursing service policies and procedures. Assist new employees in following established facility policies and procedures, Identify resident problems and concerns and report them immediately to a charge nurse or a licensed nurse. Complete assignments timely, completely and accurately. Conduct resident rounds as assigned. Initiate corrective action as necessary and/or seek assistance of a licensed nurse. Identify safety hazards and emergency situations, and initiate corrective action. Attend all in-service classes as assigned and complete assignments. Assume personal responsibility for following facility procedures related to control of equipment and supplies within the unit.

Certified Medication Aide

GENERAL PURPOSE: The primary purpose is to provide medication administration as ordered by the physician within the scope of practice as set forth in the regulatory guidelines through Texas Health and Human Services Medication Aide Program and as directed by the Director of Nursing Services. Other purposes of the CMA role is to assist clinical staff as designated by Director of Nursing and/or Administrator. QUALIFICATIONS: Must be a Medication Aide in good standing and currently certified by the State to practice in Texas. Must be able to relate positively and favorably to residents and families and to work cooperatively with others. Must maintain regular attendance on the job and be available to work extended hours as needed by administrative staff. Must be able to perform the essential job functions of this job. Related CMA/CNA experience required. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Administration of medications for all residents assigned per physician order. Document via electronic medication administration record according to standard practice to include vital signs as ordered and directed according to medications administered. Report any medication discrepancies, refusals, resident adverse reactions, etc to charge nurse immediately upon discovery. Maintain medication cart in clean, orderly fashion and immediately report any out of stock and/or missing medications to charge nurse when noted. Consult current medication resources/books/licensed nurse for newly prescribed medications not familiar to CMA. Ensure and maintain infection control measures, including isolation precautions when in place, while carrying out all job duties and promote infection control measures throughout facility. Ensure resident confidentiality and observance of HIPAA compliance at all times. Consult with, and interact with other staff of facility in professional, courteous and respectful manner at all times. Maintain positive, courteous, and respectful interactions with residents maintaining resident dignity at all times. May be assigned to function as certified nurse aide as needed/required by nursing administration. OTHER FUNCTIONS AND RELATIONSHIPS: · Understand, comply with and promote all rules and regulations regarding residents’ rights; promote positive relationships with residents, visitors, families, employees, and regulators to include presenting a professional appearance. · Comply with, support, and enforce policies involving all safety and infection control procedures to include the proper use of mech lifts, gait belts and other necessary personal protective equipment. · Respond promptly and thoroughly when problems are reported by other employees. · Attend and participate in educational activities, in-service training and staff meetings. · Participate in quality improvement activities as assigned.
