General Statement of Duties Closing Date: This position closes on Monday, December 8, 2025. Provides psychiatric treatment, support and rehabilitation to clients with serious mental illness on the ACT Team; may provide consultation and education services to specific populations; does related work as required. Essential Duties Psychiatric nurse position provides treatment, support, and rehabilitation to adults with a serious mental illness on the ACT Team. Duties include mental health and nursing assessments, service linkage, case management, medication monitoring, family support, assistance with daily living, crisis intervention. All services have a recovery focus. Provide on call support, hours include weekends and evenings. This is a specialized position and due to the nature of work performed, graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing and a certificate as a registered professional nurse is desired to meet the position qualifications. Considerable knowledge of principles of community mental health and/or intellectual disabilities and/or substance use disorders; considerable knowledge and understanding of fundamental concepts of normal and abnormal human behavior, personality development, family and group dynamics; considerable knowledge of and an ability to apply a variety of psychotherapeutic treatment techniques/modalities; adherence to basic ethics appropriate for a professional helping relationship; knowledge of mental health diagnoses, assessment, and/or psychological and educational testing; some knowledge of consultation program; considerable knowledge of psychosocial history development; very good interviewing and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing; demonstrated ability to act with good judgment. Minimum Qualifications Possession of a two (2)-year master's degree in clinical social work, psychology or a directly related field plus one (1) year of experience in a mental health setting [for a one-year degree, one(1) additional year of experience or an internship is required to replace the second year of formal training]; OR , a bachelor's degree in related field plus four (4) years of experience in a community mental health setting; OR , any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Additional Information Possession of a valid Virginia driver's license is required. TB Screening and Child Abuse Registry Check required, if offered employment. Must have graduated from an accredited school of professional nursing and possess a certificate as a registered professional nurse issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia. These services are key to keeping patients safe and manageable during their treatment and when possible, to prevent patients from needing more intensive psychiatric hospitalization. PC computer skills to include maintaining electronic medical records; strong written and verbal communication skills; provides educational opportunities for agency providers in areas of expertise; ability to act independently and make decisions in critical situations. Minimum Qualifications Master's degree from an accredited nurse practitioner program acceptable to the Virginia Joint Board of Nursing and Medicine, which grants licensure for nurse practitioners; or a Master's degree from an accredited nursing program with a post-graducate nurse practitioner certificate; plus one (1) year of related experience, preferable in an Occupational Health Primary Healthcare or Acute Care setting; or, any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Additional Information Must possess and maintain a current license as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician's Assistant with prescriptive authority issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
