Performs similar duties in other areas of the hospital as assigned. Essential Functions: Practice within the scope of practice for a Surgical Technologist as outlined by the Association of Surgical Technologist (AST). Demonstrates an understanding of the principles of asepsis and consistently maintains sterile technique. Monitors and calls attention to breaks in technique. Communicates to circulating RN and surgeon any breaks in technique. Demonstrates knowledge of sterilization and disinfection, as evidenced by practice. Able to assemble and troubleshoot equipment and instrumentation. Ensures all necessary equipment and available instruments and supplies are in the room prior to the start of the case. Handles all surgical specimens appropriately. In conjunction with the RN, conducts accurate sponge, needle and instrument counts according to departmental policies. Accurately confirms and labels all medications on the sterile field, informs surgeon of medication to be dispensed prior to passing at the field. Demonstrates an understanding of the electronic system to retrieve and view pick tickets to pull surgical cases. Updates preference cards as indicated. Communicates changes/needs to inventory coordinator. Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency in preparing patient for surgery once in the surgical unit. Demonstrates OR team involvement by actively participating in operating room turnover process, returning unused case supplies/equipment, and assisting with restocking of room supplies.

Essential Functions: Provides services in accordance with the plan of care. Makes the initial evaluation visit and regularly reevaluates the patient's nursing needs. Initiates the plan of care and necessary revisions. Provides those services requiring substantial specialized nursing skills. Initiates appropriate preventative and rehabilitative nursing procedures. Prepares clinical and progress notes for each patient visit and summaries of care conferences on his/her patients in a timely manner as per Agency policy. Coordinates services. Informs personnel of changes in the condition and needs of the patient. Counsels the patient and family/significant others in meeting nursing and related needs. Participates in and presents inservice programs. Understands and adheres to established Agency policies and procedures. Processes orders and notifies physician of patient needs and changes in condition. Completes certification/recertification orders and discharge summaries. Determines the amount and type of nursing needed by each individual patient Refers to Physical Therapist, Speech Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist and Medical Social Worker those patients requiring their specialized skills. Supervises and teaches other nursing personnel. Conducts patient care conferences on patients assigned to his/her care. Participates in peer review and Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement as assigned. Gives total patient care as needed. Takes on-call duty nights, weekends, and holidays, as assigned. Completes and submits OASIS assessments, reassessments, transfers, resumptions of care, discharges and significant change in condition in accordance with Agency defined time frames. Provides morning care including bath, changing linens and dressing resident, evening care and other general care as necessary throughout the 24 hr. day. Assists in providing restorative care to residents. As directed, accurately record vital signs, weight, height, intake/output and consumption, and other required documentation. Provides resident care including positioning, lifting, turning, and ambulating the resident and utilizing special equipment as necessary. Prepares the resident for meals, distributes food trays, water, nourishment, feeds or assists residents to and from dining room. Encourages intake as indicated. Under supervision, performs general care activities for residents in precautionary. Provides post mortem care makes rounds on residents and answers resident call lights promptly. Practices universal precautions. Encourages restoration of function and prevents resident deterioration to the extent possible. Encourage residents to attend therapies as prescribed. Handles and cares for residents clothing and other personal property from admission through discharge. Transports residents to and from various areas as needed.
