Monitor and report incidents or changes in resident conditions per facility policy. Position Summary The Staff Development Coordinator/Infection Preventionist is responsible for planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating all educational programs for facility staff, as well as overseeing the infection prevention and control program in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations. This dual-role position supports quality resident care by ensuring competent staff performance and maintaining an effective infection prevention program throughout the facility. Staff Development Responsibilities Develop, implement, and maintain a facility-wide orientation program for all new hires. Provide ongoing mandatory and in-service education (e.g., CPR, abuse prevention, HIPAA, safety, emergency preparedness). Coordinate annual competencies for nursing and direct-care staff (including clinical skills validation). Assess educational needs through direct observation, audits, staff requests, and quality indicators. Maintain accurate and up-to-date education records, licenses, and certifications. Collaborate with nursing leadership to identify performance gaps and create improvement plans. Assist with onboarding, mentoring, and development of new nurses, CNAs, and other staff. Report communicable diseases to local/state health departments as required. Develop and implement policies related to standard, transmission-based, and enhanced precautions. Ensure adherence to hand hygiene, PPE use, cleaning/disinfection practices, antimicrobial stewardship standards, and isolation protocols. Educate staff, residents, families, and volunteers on infection prevention practices. Lead outbreak management and coordinate response during respiratory viruses, GI outbreaks, COVID-19, etc. Chair or co-chair the Infection Prevention & Control Committee and report findings to QAPI. Collaborate with environmental services, nursing, and medical staff to reduce infection risk. Qualifications Licensed RN Prior experience in long-term care required/preferred (facility can adjust). Completion of CMS-required Infection Preventionist Training or willingness to complete upon hire. Experience in staff development, education, or clinical leadership preferred. Strong knowledge of: Federal and state LTC regulations (F-tags, CMS guidelines) Infection control standards (CDC, APIC, OSHA) Adult learning principles and competency-based training Excellent communication, organization, and documentation skills.
