A caregiver who excels in this role will: Assist surgeons in the scrub capacity . Scrub, gown and glove caregivers. Set up tables with instruments and supplies. Anticipate the needs of the surgeon, including instruments, sutures, sponges and supplies. Assist in preparing and draping patients and operative areas. Understand and maintain aseptic technique. Count instruments, sponges and needles with a circulating RN and report correctness and discrepancies. Assist in applying dressings and casts. Assemble all instruments and equipment for decontamination. Assist with maintaining equipment, routine terminal cleaning, housekeeping duties, room inventory and stocking supplies. Assist the surgical team as a circulator under the direction of an RN. Assist in transporting patients and preoperative preparation. Assume call responsibility. Transitional team duties: remove trash from OR, wash out trash cans, wash tables and furniture, move tables and furniture, wipe all flat surfaces, spot clean walls, clean floors and clean and stock anesthesia equipment.
