Most patients admitted to PVSU come from an Intensive Care Unit (ICU). PVSU focuses on maximizing the rehabilitation while continuing to treat the cause of the illness. This goal is accomplished through intensive physical therapy, respiratory care and mental stimulation. PVSU has a nurse/patient ratio of 3:1 based upon nursing acuity. There are also 17 beds for medical/surgical level of care for neurosurgical, trauma, burns, orthopedic trauma, and bariatric weight loss (gastric bypass and gastric sleeves). Department/Position Overview: Our department includes 25-bed prep & recovery unit and 8 procedure rooms. Nurses are cross-trained in interventional radiology, neuro, ultra sound and vascular procedures. We are looking for a strong nurse due to the autonomy and critical thinking needed in this role. The procedure nurse provides hemodynamic monitoring, administers moderate sedation, and assist the interdisciplinary team during procedures to ensure excellent patient care. The procedure nurse assists in the Vascular & Interventional Centers pre-op and recovery area to ensure a safe and efficient transition for our patients. The ICU RN’s are required to have a wide array of knowledge, skill and ability to competently and safely provide critical care to our patients. Frequent ongoing education, new skill acquisition and skill validation are provided and supported by an experienced ICU CNS for new and experienced ICU nurses. This unit welcomes experienced nurses moving into this specialty. The 11-week Transition to Practice program focuses on the orientation transition experience with intentional knowledge support and skill acquisition for practice in IMC areas. ICU staff are supported by an interdisciplinary care team which in part includes unit based respiratory, physical, speech and occupational therapists. Interpreter, nutrition, palliative, chaplaincy and ethical services are readily available as well. Our ICU has onsite and eICU pulmonary critical care intensivists and their team of physician extenders 24/7. Physician lead, nurse driven interdisciplinary rounds are held daily for continuity of care and to address nursing’s concerns or questions.
