This contracted position is located in the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office Detention Division and is responsible for providing professional medical services to inmates within the Detention Center. The role ensures inmates receive appropriate care in accordance with federal, state, and local laws, Montana Jail Standards, and recognized correctional healthcare and community standards. The position is supervised by the Detention Center Clinic Director and collaborates with a multidisciplinary team of medical professionals, detention staff, and community healthcare providers. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provide professional medical services within the Gallatin County Detention Center, including diagnosis, treatment, and medication management. Ensure all care is delivered in compliance with established laws, regulations, policies, and professional standards. Provide direct patient care in the Detention Center clinic with a minimum of 12 hours per week, 52 weeks per year, except for approved time off. Be available “on call” by County-issued phone during clinic hours, including weekends and holidays, unless time off is approved. Communication may include text, phone, or email. Respond to special circumstances beyond regular clinic hours as needed (e.g., infectious disease outbreaks, emergencies, disasters, or legal obligations). Under general supervision of the Director of Nursing, this position performs a variety of paraprofessional nursing services for patients in a residential, clinical or institutional setting. This position reports to the Director of Nursing and provides shift supervision to the Certified Nurse Aides. The position provides supervision to the Certified Nurse Aides, including performing and conducting the performance appraisals; reports personnel problems and concerns to the appropriate personnel and provides guidance and training to employees with less experience and may coordinate special projects as requested. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities Performs a variety of para-professional nursing services toward meeting the daily and special needs of residents and in compliance with the nurse practices act. Responds to residents’ personal requests, satisfying authorized requests and reporting unusual or special requests to the appropriate personnel. Consults with and interprets policies for personnel, residents, relatives and others. Orders and administers medications as directed by the physician.
