Provides first level supervision, makes patient assignment every shift and provides clinical support to nursing personnel (e.g. assuming patient load, assisting with admissions/procedures, etc.) and problem identification/solving of patient care issues. The Charge Nurse assists in mentoring of new associates, academic partners and participates in annual performance review process. Performs other duties as assigned. The RN assesses patient/family needs, develops and priorities patient goals, evaluates care delivery, and continually revises the plan of care to meet the biological, emotional, psychosocial, spiritual, developmental, and educational needs of the patient/family. The RN delegates care as appropriate to optimize patient outcomes. The RN adheres to the Kansas Nurse Practice Act. What you will do in this role: Assess the patients condition during admission and each scheduled shift, promptly identifying and reporting any changes in patient status. Perform procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by the medical provider(s), and ensure thorough and timely documentation of care administration in the patients medical record. - Administer prescribed medications, monitor the patient for therapeutic response, and take appropriate action in the event of an unintended response to the medication. Job Summary and Qualifications The Labor and Delivery unit delivers approximately 350 babies per month and care for 700-900 outpatients per month. Their focus is on high risk labor for women age 14- 55. They have the highest employee engagement scores in the hospital, with very active committees which contribute to the shared governance on the unit. Over 70% of LDR nurses have received their National Nursing Certifications. Additionally this unit has been remodeled and the project was completed in Spring 2023. Responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation. Responsible for directing and coordinating all nursing care for the department-specific patient population in accordance with the standards of nursing care and practice as defined by Wesley Medical Center and the Kansas Nurse Practice Act.
