Responsibilities Functions as part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering family-centered care across Women’s Services units, including Labor & Delivery, Family Birth Centers, and Newborn Nurseries. Assists at the surgical field, passing instruments and supplies to other members of the surgical team. Participates in the preparation and setup of surgical suites, maintaining sterile technique while managing instruments and supplies for various procedures. Provides basic patient care and unit support under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). Performs a broad range of essential tasks that support safe and efficient patient care, but do not require RN-level licensure or skills. Qualifications Experience: 1 year Surgical Technologist experience preferred. Women’s Services experience preferred. Education: Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technologist program or completion of a military training program for surgical technologists. OR High school diploma or equivalent, and As of January 1, 2017, in lieu of the formal Surg Tech training program requirement, may substitute professional experience if candidate has worked 2 out of last 3 years as Surgical Technologist. Skills: Basic level patient care skills per requirements of the position. Basic medical terminology. Keyboard skills and ability to navigate electronic systems applicable to job functions. Ability to understand and apply principles of sterile technique and surgical procedures within the scope of the position Able to work in a fast paced environment and prioritize multiple assignments. Flexibility and willingness to adapt to a changing environment and circumstances. Licensure American Heart Association approved BLS certification required. For new hires after July 1, 2016 not meeting the previous experience provision noted in the Education section: Current certification as Surgical Technologist or certification as Surgical Technologist within 12 months of graduation from Surg Tech program. Washington: Registered Surgical Technologist (RST) with State of WA required. Pay Range USD $34.60 - USD $49.48 /Hr. Assemble, check and open sterile packs, sutures and more. Practice and assist others in maintaining aseptic techniques and electrical and environmental safety in department. Comply with required standards for patient positioning, skin preparation, counting and side-site verification. Remain with the sterile setup to assure maintenance of the sterile field. Assist with draping the sterile field. Report and/or correct any break in sterile technique. Prepare and edit surgeon's preference lists to assure quality care of the surgical patient. Communicate pertinent information during procedure and during personnel changes. Assure that equipment and supplies are utilized at appropriate levels and returned to their proper location after use. Collect specimens as directed by the surgeon and identify the origin of each specimen to the RN Circulator. Assist surgeons and assistants with retraction and suction as directed. Assure that all biohazard material is handled and disposed of properly using universal precautions. Keep accurate counts of all sutures, sharps, soft goods and instruments. Assure that all instrumentation is returned to decontamination with proper documentation count sheets. Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: Graduate of a Surgical Technology Program accredited through the CAAHEP or ABHES OR completion of a military surgical technology program OR certification as a Surgical Technologist (TS-C through the National Center for Competency Training or CST through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting) Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) Certification Two years of experience in a multi-disciplined OR in an acute care hospital Physical Requirements: Workload is heavy and requires constant lifting, moving of patients, equipment, instrument trays, and supplies.
