South Pointe Hospital’s 7th Floor Med/Surg and Observation Unit focuses on healing and surgery while providing comprehensive care and services to adults with a wide variety of diagnoses, such as chest pain, stomach pain, or generalized weakness. With such variety, no two days are the same, but you will be surrounded every day by a team of long-standing caregivers who welcome you with open arms. As Clinical Technician, you will play a direct role in our mission to continuously provide patients with the best healthcare experience possible. 

A caregiver in this position works PRN (as needed) varying shifts. 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN, such as checking vital signs and weight, assisting patients with personal care, point of care testing, dressing changes, applying external monitoring devices and removing urinary Foley catheters.  
  • Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to an RN.  
  • Assist with keeping patients’ rooms clean and orderly.  

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:   

  • High School Diploma/GED  
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross upon or within new hire period *Nursing students must obtain prior to hire  
  • One year of recent, full-time patient care experience OR nursing student with at least one completed clinical rotation as part of an accredited Nursing School Program OR military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) OR additional education/training (e.g., mental health)  
  • Competencies in both the professional, technical and clinical knowledge domains must be demonstrated in a safe, effective and efficient manner.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in applied mathematics & reading comprehension at an 8th grade level

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.
  • Medium Work - Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force rarely, and/or 0 to 50 pounds of force occasionally to move objects.
  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

North and South 8 have telemetry capabilities for our patients. Kelemen 8 has frequent admissions and discharges. Kelemen 8 can accept a total of 77 patients. The North side houses 37 patients, and the South side houses 36 patients. There are two negative pressure rooms with an anti-room. There is a pharmacist present on the unit to assist the RNs with medication questions/concerns. Multidisciplinary rounds occur every Monday through Friday. Rounds involve all aspects of the healthcare team, including the patient and family. Education Requirements High School / GED License/Certification Requirements Successful completion of an unlicensed health care provider/ technician program Completed at least one fundamental nursing course in an accredited Nursing Program 1 year or more patient care experience in a similar role.
