JOB LOCATION : Cancer Center
DEPARTMENT: PCC - CANCER CENTER ADMINISTRATION
SCHEDULE: Full Time, 8 HR Day Shift, 8a-4:30p
POSITION SUMMARY
The Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) serves as an advanced practice nursing leader responsible for improving oncology care delivery across both inpatient and outpatient cancer services at SGMC Health. This role provides expert clinical consultation, drives evidence-based practice, and leads system-based quality improvement initiatives that enhance patient safety, nursing competency, and regulatory readiness. The Oncology CNS partners with physicians, nursing, leadership, pharmacy, and interdisciplinary teams to standardize oncology care processes and ensure alignment with national oncology standards. Through clinical leadership, staff development, and operational collaboration, the Oncology CNS strengthens care coordination, improves patient outcomes, and supports the safe implementation of complex and emerging therapies.
EDUCATION
- Masters or Doctoral degree in Nursing from an accredited program. (Required)
- Graduation from an accredited Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) program. (Required)
- Current Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) licensure in the State of Georgia. (Required)
- Certified Oncology Certified Nurse or Advanced Practice Oncology Nurse (OCN or APOCN). (Required)
- Minimum of 5 years of oncology practice as an APRN in oncology specific settings.
- Demonstrated experience in program development and educational program development.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience leading clinical staff, process improvement, staff education, or quality initiatives in oncology services.
- Advanced knowledge of oncology nursing practices, cancer biology, and treatment modalities including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and emerging therapies such as bispecific antibodies.
- Expert level knowledge of oncology safety standards including infusion and administration and USP <800> hazardous drug requirements.
- Strong knowledge of oncology regulatory and accreditation standards including Commission on Cancer (COC), DNV, QOPI, MIPS, and national oncology practice guidelines.
- Expertise knowledge in oncology clinical assessment, symptom management, and prevention of oncolytic emergencies.
- Ability to translate evidence-based oncology research into clinical practice improvements.
- Demonstrated ability to lead interdisciplinary collaboration across inpatient and outpatient environments for excellence in oncology provision of care.
- Strong analytic and problem solving skills for identifying system gaps and implementing practice improvements.
- Ability to design and implement staff education, competency programs, and clinical training initiatives.
- Excellent communication skills and presentation abilities.
- Strong leadership and coaching abilities to support nursing professional development.
- Ability to manage multiple complex priorities in a growing demanding work environment.
