Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Nursing Assistant (NA), you will perform essential direct patient care, working under the guidance and direction of a Registered Nurse, often while actively pursuing your Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification.

Every day you will provide comprehensive patient care, including bathing, oral care, feeding, ambulation, and monitoring vital signs. You will also manage other duties such as inventory, documentation, clerical tasks, dietary assistance, light housekeeping, and computer input, directly supporting the nursing unit's operational needs.

To be successful in this role, you will possess a strong capability for basic patient care, demonstrate meticulous attention to detail in all tasks, and effectively collaborate within the nursing team to ensure optimal patient well-being and a supportive care environment, showcasing dedication to advancing your healthcare career.

  • PROVIDE FOR PATIENTS' PERSONAL CARE:



      • Take vital signs.


      • Cleansing bath.


      • Back and skin care.


      • Oral hygiene and care of dentures.


      • Hair and nail care.


      • Perineal care.


      • Shaving male patients.


      • Report all observed symptoms, treatment and changes in patients condition to licensed staff.
  • ASSIST PATIENT WITH TOILET NEEDS:



      • Bedpan, urinal, commode.


      • Assist with elimination aides; Colostomy care and irrigation and voided, enemas.
  • MAINTAIN A CLEAN AND NEAT ENVIRONMENT:



      • Make beds.


      • Tidy patients' unit.


      • Keep patients' equipment clean.


      • Provide for patient safety and care of valuables.
  • ASSIST PATIENT WITH DIET AND NOURISHMENT:



      • Assist with meals.


      • Feed patients, as necessary.


      • Assist with menus.


      • Keep patients supplied with fresh drinking water.


      • Measure and record oral intake and output.
  • OTHER RELATED JOB DUTIES:



      • Must attend 50% or more of staff meetings.


      • Must attend all mandatory meetings and classes.


      • Assist in admission, transfer, transport and discharge procedures as assigned.
  • NURSING BUNDLE



      • Performs hourly rounding during the day and every two (2) hours at night, assessing for pain, patient position change, toileting needs, and environmental check. Inform RN's of increased pain and other patient condition changes/needs.


      • Assist in completing patient care board on admission and update as necessary throughout shift.


      • Assist with discharge phone calls as required by unit needs.


      • Assist with patient 'thank you' cards as required by unit needs.

Job Requirements

Required

  • Certificate Other Nurse Assistant certification, upon hire or
  • Other Completion of a nursing fundamentals class and are currently enrolled in nursing school, upon hire or
  • Other Graduate from a nursingprogram, upon hire and
  • 1-2 years of acute care experience
  • Certified Nursing Assistant: CA, upon hire and
  • Basic Life Support - CPR, upon hire

Please be advised that this location requires quarterly American Heart Association (AHA) Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) competency certification post-hire. This ongoing competency is required through resources internal to the facility; outside RQI competency resources are not acceptable for CommonSpirit Health compliance requirements.
