Registered Nurse (Psychiatry)  

Location: Fairfax, VA
Schedule: Three 12-hour shifts per week | No Sundays 
Compensation: Competitive pay based on experience 

Deliver infusion-based psychiatric care in a supportive outpatient setting focused on patient safety, comfort, and balance. 
This role is well suited for RNs with strong IV skills who value meaningful patient interaction and a calm clinical environment. 

 

About the Role 

  • Provide psychiatric infusion care in an outpatient clinic setting 
  • Monitor patients closely to ensure safe, effective, and compassionate treatment 
  • Support a patient-centered experience throughout each visit 

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Administer ketamine infusions via IV while following established protocols 
  • Monitor patient responses and provide reassurance throughout treatment 
  • Educate patients and families on the infusion process and expectations 
  • Maintain thorough, compliant clinical documentation 
  • Follow medication safety, sterile technique, and infection control standards 
  • Assist with telehealth support when not administering infusions 
  • Remain flexible and collaborate with team members as needed 

 

Requirements (Must-Haves) 

  • Current, active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license 
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program 
  • Strong IV placement and management skills 
  • Knowledge of medications, sterile techniques, and infection control 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Ability to adapt in a collaborative outpatient clinical environment

To protect the public and citizens of Montgomery County by providing a wide range of constructive, professional correctional services for pretrial and convicted detainees. The medical staff at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility (MCCF) and Montgomery County Detention Center (MCDC) provide medical care and services to all incarcerated inmates in compliance with recognized health care, legal, and correctional standards. The facilities are accredited by the Maryland Commission on Correctional Standards (MCCS), the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC), and the American Correctional Association (ACA). Both facilities are staffed with nurses 24 hours a day and 7 days per week. Physicians and nurse practitioners provide on-site evaluation and treatment of acute and chronic medical conditions. WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR The Montgomery County Department of Correction and Rehabilitation is seeking candidates for the Correctional Health Nurses (CHN) I and II, which are registered nurses to work full-time at either the Montgomery County Correctional Facility (MCCF) in Boyds, Maryland or at the Montgomery County Detention Center (MCDC) in Rockville, Maryland, depending upon the area of specialty/interest and the needs of the Department. The individual selected for this position will be considered an "Essential Employee". Essential employees must report to work during periods of general emergency or liberal leave. This position may be filled as a Correctional Health Nurse I, Grade 21. There is a non-competitive promotional opportunity to Correctional Health Nurse II, Grade 24. Work schedules require either eleven (11) and twelve (12) hour day shifts, totaling 80 hours over a 2 week pay period – some weekends and holiday work is required. The facility is open seven days a week, 24 hours a day. Shift bids are done annually and are based on seniority. This is full performance level professional nursing performed in the correctional environment. Obtains continuing education as required by COMAR 10.53.04 for each renewal year. *The State of Maryland accepts as valid the current RN licensure from a candidate's primary state of residence if that state has an interstate compact with Maryland. The states having this interstate compact are Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Idaho, Iowa, Maine, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and Wisconsin. (This equivalency only applies to candidates whose primary residence is not Maryland). Note: There will be no substitutions for this section. There are no preferred Criteria for this position. All applicants will be reviewed by OHR for minimum qualifications. Those applicants who meet minimum qualifications will be rated “Referred” and will be placed on the Eligible List and may be considered for an interview.
