Under the general supervision, the Surgical Tech performs the scrub role and maintains a safe sterile environment which includes preparing, passing, holding, inserting, removing, cleaning and assembly of instruments, equipment and supplies; counting sponges, needles, sharps and instruments; and assists the RN with delegated circulating duties, transporting, positioning, skin preps and specimen preparation in accordance with established hospital policies and procedures. Always works as a team member within the entire facility. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Is responsible for performing the scrub role and assist with all aspects of the care of the surgical patient according to policy and procedure and care standards.
  • Ability to take direction from others and follow through in a concise manner, which also promotes efficiency.
  • Ability to communicate using written, verbal, non-verbal skills when interacting with staff, physicians and ancillary departments.
  • Ability to set priorities.
  • Application of sterile and aseptic techniques
  • Knowledge of anatomy & surgical procedures
  • Acts to protect and advance patient’s best interest.
  • Maintains knowledge of equipment, expected patient outcome, and anticipated complications.
  • Satisfactorily demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties outlined in this job description as well as continually demonstrates competency in performing the job duties.

 

Qualifications:

  • High School graduate or equivalent required.
  • Graduate of a School of Surgical Technology preferred.
  • Effectively communicates, both orally and written.
  • AHA BLS healthcare required within 30 days of hire.
