Job Description
This position is responsible for developing and applying evidenced based nursing practice standards to achieve optimal patient outcomes. This RN oversees evidence-based, individualized, effective care to patients and families in an environment of clinical excellence. The development, planning, presentation and evaluation of educational activities within areas of expertise will be fostered through the development of competencies in the learner. This RN will actively support Shared Governance/Unit Based Councils and professional practice activities to achieve departmental and overall organizational goals. This RN will collaborate with departmental managers to develop orientation plans for new employees in clinical departments including development and maintenance of weekly orientation objectives and monitoring of each employee’s progress. Supports house wide professional practice education programs such as nursing assessment, preceptor classes, shared governance and professional practice ladder. Understands PI principles and oversees process improvement and risk management issues. This RN will also serve to enhance staff retention by role modeling professional practice. This position is also accountable for oversight of patient care delivery during assigned weekend shifts. This RN makes rounds to all departments, collaborates with charge personnel and staff to solve clinical and staffing issues, addresses and documents practice variations and staff non-compliance to HR policies. Nursing metrics are assessed and staff coached/mentored to improve outcomes when deficits are identified. This RN will initiate and/or follow up the Utilization Review process for each patient. This RN also serves as a patient advocate, communicates with support departments as appropriate to resolve issues. Following the chain of command, communicates appropriate issues to AOC, Nursing Leadership, and Ancillary Departments. This is a safety sensitive position.Education
Bachelors Nursing (BSN) required
Masters Nursing (MSN) preferred
Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
Experience
Preferably five years RN experience with six months demonstrated in leadership responsibilities
Certification & Licensures
West Virginia Nursing License Current required.
BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) AHA - American Heart Association approved Required within 30 days.
PEARS or PALS required within 120 days.
Qualifications
Knowledgeable in the cognitive, physical, emotional and chronological stages of human growth and development. Competent to provide assessment, care and treatment appropriate to the age group of patients served.
