Essential Responsibilities

1. Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations. 2. Ensures that safe, high-quality patient care is provided in compliance with Federal, State and local regulatory requirements and processional standards (AORN, The Joint Commission). 3. Develops and coordinates implementation of systems designed to efficiently support the execution of the surgeries scheduled (intraoperative) for assigned operating rooms. 4. Fosters collaborative practice and effective interaction among all members of the health care team. 5. Identifies care needs of patients/significant others, implements interventions, and utilizes equipment necessary to meet the specific need of the patient population served. 6. Under the direction of the nursing management team, executes daily assignments, ensures clinical practice according to standard, and efficient schedule, and/or patient flow throughout the perioperative continuum. 7. Plans ahead to make sure that resources, materials, and sufficient manpower are available in order to meet operational needs; demonstrating critical thinking skills and problem solving skills integrating the concepts of coaching and mentoring. 8. Fosters multi-disciplinary team approach and promotes the advancement of collaborative practice. 9. Maintains effective relationships with physicians and other members of the health care team in a manner that is perceived as positive, welcoming, and customer focused. 10. Plans for growth and development of the unit. 11. Identifies circumstance and trends that may affect the unit; plans and implements change effectively. 12. Reviews schedules for the day of and future recommending and implementing revisions to maximize efficiency and collaborates with stakeholders to make changes necessary for the smooth progression of the surgical schedule. Anticipates admissions from NORA locations – Provides oversight of anesthesia needs for the procedural activities performed in the unit. 13. Confers with directors, surgeons, and anesthesiologist when scheduling emergencies or making changes in the scheduled cases and communicates with those staff members as needed implement schedule changes. 14. Encourages team members to maintain a consistent flow of information and coordination of activities for surgical service area. 15. Hires, evaluates, and counsels service group personnel in coordination with the Director. 16. Manages timekeeping and payroll functions for staff; assists staff with timekeeping corrections as needed per policy. 17. Provides direct patient care as needed; provides break and lunch relief and backup for staff as needed. 18. Identifies and coordinates the needs of service-user physicians through formal and informal meetings. 19. Oversees new staff orientation in collaboration with the perioperative educator. 20. Assists with managing and controlling department expenditures within established budgets. 21. Promotes patient and patient family satisfaction. 22. Strives for quality outcomes and efficient patient flow. 23. Facilitates daily activities of the assigned department(s) in relationship to the progression of the schedule as applicable. 24. Performs other duties as assigned.

Implements operational changes to satisfy regulatory (local, state, national) requirements and maintains area of responsibility in a state of continual readiness for Joint Commission and DHS surveys. 9. Implements policies, procedures, and directives as appropriate. 10. Ensures a high level of employee, patient and physician satisfaction Maintain positive relations with direct and indirect customers. 11. Develops and maintains open, honest and mutually beneficial relationships with, managers, staff, members of hospital leadership team, medical staff, and other hospital employees. Relationship will be maintained in a manner consistent with Eisenhower Medical Center’s mission values and codes of conduct consistent with Performance Excellence. 12. Communicates closely with treating physicians keeping them informed of scheduling issues, any scheduling delays and patient care issues. Develops and maintains open lines of communication between the team members. 13. Monitors clinic specific business metrics, works with clinic staff to maintain metrics at or above established division goals. 14. Maintains survey-ready clinics, compliant with JCAHO standards and state/federal regulatory bodies. Participates in Joint Commission inspections and other local and state regulatory inspection requirements. 15. Selects, trains/orients, directs, coaches, evaluates, and counsels staff. 16. Monitors daily scheduling for timely flow and reduced wait times. 17. Monitors electronic medical records worklist and MyChart messages of all staff for timely response and follow up. 18. Assists in patient care including rooming of patient, entering health information into EMR, administering injections, assist with exam or diagnostic procedure setup. 19. Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and with EMC policies and procedures. 20. Monitors to ensure lab quality checks are done daily including refrigerator temperature logging and eyewash checks per policy. 21. Establish and maintain par levels of medical supplies. 22. Ensures that staff consistently provides high quality patient care and/or other support services that are valued by patients, physicians and each other. 23. Ensures National Patient Safety Goals are adhered to and works closely with clinical staff in compliance among all staff and physicians. 24. Collaborates, plans and implements process improvement to maintain high customer satisfaction, with hospital quality staff and clinic division staff. 25. Schedules staff to ensure appropriate coverage, including responsibility to float to other areas or “flex out” when needed. 26. Monitors timekeeping system and minimizes overtime and penalties. 29. Performs other duties as assigned.
