Job Summary: The EmPATH Unit Registered Nurse is responsible for delivering safe, compassionate, and patient-centered care to individuals experiencing acute psychiatric or behavioral health crises. Utilizing the nursing process, the RN independently assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care in collaboration with interdisciplinary team members. The nurse supports a trauma-informed, recovery-oriented environment, promoting stabilization and emotional healing. This role requires adherence to all hospital policies, regulatory standards, and best practices in mental health and emergency care, while maintaining a strong focus on patient safety, dignity, and therapeutic engagement. Licensure and Certification: Current California RN license Current BLS provider card Workplace violence/de-escalation training required Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing certification preferred Additional Licensure and Certification: LAC DMH LPS Evaluator & Allied Health Credentialed Professional required within 6 months of hire Education: Associate’s degree in Nursing (ASN) required Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) strongly preferred Experience: Minimum (2) years psychiatric acute care experience preferred Minimum (1) year acute hospital experience preferred Knowledge and Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills Strong organizational skills Critical thinking skills Problem solving skills Basic computer skills Physical Demands - Patient Care: Continuous standing/walking and occasional/intermittent sitting. Continuous use of bilateral upper extremities in fine motor activities requiring fingering, grasping, and forward reaching between waist and shoulder level to handle/operate medical equipment/devices. Frequent reaching above shoulder level and overhead. Frequent forward bending, twisting, squatting and kneeling; occasional climbing. Occasional repositioning and transferring patients weighing up to 200 pounds between bed, chair, and gurney. Occasional lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 25 pounds. Occasional/intermittent pushing of gurneys, wheelchairs, bed and other medical equipment over tiled and carpeted surfaces. Continuous use of near vision to read medical equipment such as monitoring devices and reading documents and computer screens; hearing and verbal communication to interact with patients, co-workers, and other customers.
