The Steamboat Springs School District is seeking a qualified School Nurse to join the District Health team working at Soda Creek Elementary.

SALARY INFORMATION:

Full time (1.0 FTE) position, working a 185 days school year. Placement is based on a maximum of 4 years of experience and verified nursing experience. $60,600.00 - $70,894.00 Pay will be prorated based on the actual number of days worked in 25/26 school year.

SUMMARY: This position serves as the primary health consultant and provides direct care necessary to support student health needs in the school setting, within the parameters of the Colorado Registered Nurse (RN) and BSN licensure. Identify health needs of students through appraisal, health histories, screening programs, and observations, conferences with parents, health providers, and school staff. Must be able to provide care to students, including medically fragile students, independently; follow doctors' orders and health care plans; collaborate with other district nurses, school staff, physicians, and parents to provide high-quality care for students with health and medical needs. Works with CDE and CDPHE for health concerns and protocols.

The School Nurse will be able to provide direct care to students, which may include, but not be limited to, gastric tube feedings and other complex medical care. The School Nurse may be asked to do other duties as assigned

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide training, delegation according to the Nurse Practice Act, and supervision of staff in providing healthcare, including, but not limited to standard precautions, infectious disease guidelines, medication administration, diabetes care, Flu andCovid school management, and seizure disorders.
  • Provide direct patient care, including monitoring student health, administering medications, and providing medically necessary procedures.
  • Provide medical expertise in schools; collaborate with healthcare providers, parents, and school personnel to identify, develop, and implement applicable Plans that mitigate health-related obstacles to learning.
  • Review student health questionnaires and updates; ensure student health records are in compliance with federal, state, and district guidelines; coordinate vision and hearing screenings. Responsible for ensuring state reports are timely and accurate.
  • Maintain required licensures/certifications; attend all required meetings, trainings, and professional development as directed by the district supervisor. Keep abreast of best practices and develop and maintain the necessary skills.
  • Assists in the development and enforcement of policy to provide a safe school environment and participates as a member of the Emergency Response Team.
  • Assists Principals with hiring of health technician paraprofessionals as appropriate. Provides daily lead work and training for the health technician role.
  • Administer emergency first aid, CPR, and AED to students and staff in accordance with established protocols.
  • General management of the health budget and distribution of supplies.
  • Provides training on an as-needed basis for school and district staff
  • Assists teachers and parents with information regarding specific health problems.
  • Provides guidance to the school/district administration on health-related policy and regulations.
  • Ensures the accuracy, completeness, confidentiality, and security of all student health information according to FERPA.
  • May be asked to provide support on field trips, ski days, or afterschool/eventing events as requested

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associate's degree in Nursing or higher (Bachelor of Science in Nursing), current Colorado RN Nurse License. (if mulit state license, must include CO)
  • Current or able to secure Colorado Department of Education Special Services License for School Nurse within 30 days of hire.
  • Current active Colorado DORA license for nurses, or must be eligible and apply within 60 days of hire
  • Previous experience in school nursing or general nursing preferred.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with students, parents, and staff.
  • Excellent administrative, organizational, and clerical skills
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft and Google.
