RN Med Surg Observation

About the unit The Medical Observation Unit consists of 54 beds. Patients are categorized as Observation secondary to insurance requirements. This is a medical unit. Patients are admitted from the Emergency Department with mental status changes, long term placement needs, pain, cardiac, TIA, r/o CVA, UTI, pneumonia, geriatric, and behavioral issues. If patients meet criteria for higher level of care they will be transferred to the assigned progressive or inpatient unit. Staff complete an assessment and shift documentation according to the Observation documentation policy. There is rapid patient turnover on this unit between patient discharges and transfers. May complete 1-4 discharge, transfers, and assessments during a 12 Hour shift. Scope of work The RN, under the ANA scope of practice utilizes the framework of the nursing process to provide professional nursing care by incorporating patient-family centered care principles to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and discharge. The RN provides quality patient care under the direction of the Nurse Leader according to Corewell Health policies and procedures and recognizes the impact of nursing care and patient/family partnerships on patient outcomes. The RN partners with and utilizes patient/family input and goals in planning plan of care and develops teaching strategies for patient/family; documents education and learning appropriately in health record. Qualifications Associates or Diploma in Nursing Required. Bachelors in Nursing Required within 5 years for GN or RN with less than 1 year of experience. Graduates from a non-accredited school of nursing must have at least one year of acute care experience or at least two years of experience in a licensed health care role and must have successfully passed the NCLEX licensure examination. MI Registered Nurse (RN) Required within 60 days of hire. Basic Life Support (BLS) required upon hire from one of the following organizations - American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or Canadian Heart and Stroke. RN Med Surg ACE

About this unit 9 North ACE unit is a 29-bed specialty unit for the care of medical patients 65 years old and older. We take care of a variety of patients with medical conditions and co-morbidities. We specialize on the acute care of the elderly. In addition to being a Magnet hospital, our staff are NICHE (Nurses Improving Care for Health System Elders) trained. Additional specialty training is provided to our staff in the care of geriatric patients. Through NICHE, all our nurses are Geriatric Resource Nurse (GRN) trained and all our nursing assistants (NAs) and clinical assistants (CAs) are Geriatric Patient Care Associate (GPCA) trained. We have a very dynamic unit, with a diverse staff that provides a unique environment of compassionate care which also provides a huge opportunity of learning and professional growth. About this unit 9 North Medical is a fast-paced 35 bed unit. Nurses on this unit care for patients with a variety of medical diagnoses, which leads to many excellent learning opportunities. The care environment on 9 North allows nurses to develop exceptional clinical assessment, critical thinking, and skills while working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary care team to meet the needs of complex medical patients. 9 North has an active Professional Nurse Council, and the staff nurses can participate in unit decisions with a Shared Governance Model. About this unit 5 North East is a 35 bed medical-surgical care unit. We provide compassionate and high-quality patient and family centered care for a wide variety of surgical and medical patients. 5 Northeast regularly cares for patients undergoing cardiac surgery, thoracic surgery, peripheral vascular surgery, general surgery, and trauma work up as well as patients with Congestive Heart Failure.
