The hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to education, training, work experience, terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement, seniority, etc.

Job Summary

Under the supervision of an RN, the LPN provides direct nursing care, within the scope of their license, to patients as directed by the physicians and other healthcare providers. Cooperative decision making is expected in the execution of duties.

Essential Functions

  • Implements and evaluates patient care under the supervision of an RN. Participates in the development of a patient-specific care plan.
  • Provides direct patient care including administering medications and treatments as prescribed.
  • Documents patient care in health record according to department standards.
  • Assigns, prioritizes, requests and accepts guidance and assistance from others to assure delivery of care in a safe and timely manner.
  • Ensures own professional effectiveness through continued education and professional development.
  • Assists in transporting of patients, specimens, supplies and equipment and in the maintenance and stocking of supplies and equipment to assure optimal functioning of the department.
  • May triage patient phone calls, counsel patients, provide patient education, take patient histories, administer prescribed medications, change dressings, clean wounds and monitor patient vital signs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • Accredited State Board of Nursing LPN Program Required:

Experience

  • Minimum of 1 year Preferred: clinical experience as an LPN
  • Required: Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply age specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patient’s needs

Credentials

Department / Location Specific Notes

OREGON:

  • LPNs working in the state of Oregon will ONLY perform components that align with applicable state regulations within the LPN scope of practice as defined by the Oregon State Board of Nursing.

OREGON WEST NETWORK - CGCH Emergency Department:

  • ACLS must be obtained within a standard grade period from hire or transfer, as specified in the PeaceHealth Policy Resuscitation Training Completion Requirements, or upon hire.

Peace Harbor Medical Center – Employee Health (Interim):

  • RN supervision will be provided by IP nurse as needed and defined by LPN scope of practice.
  • Provides support to employees consistent with standards of practice in occupational health.
  • Conducts new hire medical screening, TB screening, and immunization of healthcare workers against specific illnesses consistent with LPN scope of practice.
  • Will seek RN guidance from SHMC-RB Employee Health Nurse as needed.

SHMC – Cardiopulmonary Unit:

  • Current ACLS (Advance Cardiac Life Support) required at date of hire.

SHMC – Obstetrics:

  • Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) required at date of hire.

SHMC – Oncology RB:

  • LPN may operate in an LPN support position by answering phones, scheduling and checking in outpatients, other clerical duties, and performing nursing tasks delegated by the RN.

SHMC – Behavioral Health Unit

  • Experience in behavioral health unit or similar work environment preferred.

SHMC at RiverBend and University District:

  • Must have current licensure as an LPN prior to start date.
  • LPNs may be able to work in another nursing unit within Sacred Heart Medical Center UD and RiverBend provided that they have completed the necessary CareConnect training, unit specific competencies and have been deemed competent by a leader of the unit. Including but not limited to the unit manager, assistant nurse manager or clinical nurse educator they are floating to.

SHMC – Operating Room RB

  • LPN’s working in the Operating Room may set-up for sterile procedures, pass instruments during procedures, assist in preparation and moving of patients, clean, disinfect and sterilize instruments, assist in clean-up and turnover of rooms.

Southwest Hospice:

  • Valid driver’s license and proof of auto insurance required.

Whatcom Hospice House:

  • Valid Food Handlers permit required upon hire.

Palliative Care and Whatcom Community Hospice:

  • Valid driver’s license and proof of auto insurance required.

Southeast Alaska:

  • KMC – Obstetrics
  • ACLS required at date of hire or within 6 months.
  • NRP required at date of hire or within 6 months.
  • WHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Course required within 6 months.

Working Conditions

Lifting

  • Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH).
  • Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures.
  • Push/Pull: Frequently up to 45 lbs. force (i.e., WOW, medical carts).
  • Perform hands on CPR at least 20 mins using 100-125 lbs. of force (National Assoc. of EMS Physicians and AHA) Frequency should be seldom or occasionally.
  • Ability to move around area with frequent sitting.
  • Bending/ stooping/ squatting/ reaching/ kneeling frequently.
  • Lifting (non-patient) up to 20 lbs. occasionally and 5 lbs. frequently.

Environmental Conditions

  • Exposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles.
  • Must be able to complete tasks in a noisy environment.

Mental/Visual

  • Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
