Nemours is seeking a Hematology/Oncology Nurse Intake Coordinator (RN), FULL-TIME, to join our Nemours Children's Hospital team in Orlando, Florida.
The RN Intake Coordinator plays a critical role in optimizing clinic scheduling and referral intake operations within the pediatric hematology/oncology service line. This hybrid position. This role is responsible for coordinating the intake process, ensuring timely and accurate collection of clinical information, referrals, consultations and facilitating smooth transitions into care. The RN Intake Coordinator collaborates closely with physicians, nurse practitioners, social workers, patient access team, and administrative staff to provide compassionate, family-centered care.

This Position Is Responsible For The Following
Clinical Scheduling & Coordination
- Conduct chart reviews for scheduled clinic appointments to assess lab status, diagnosis severity, and provider match.
- Collaborate with APPs, MDs, and administrative staff to optimize scheduling decisions and clinic flow.
- Improve care coordination between clinic and infusion visits to reduce delays and enhance patient experience.
- Work closely with the Nurse Manager and Business Operations Manager to identify and implement workflow improvements.
- Provide patient triage support in the infusion center as needed.
- Utilize Epic for documentation, scheduling, and data review.
- Participate in team meetings and quality improvement initiatives.
- Conduct initial clinical assessments and triage referrals for pediatric hematology/oncology patients.
- Coordinate scheduling of initial consultations, diagnostic testing, and follow-up appointments.
- Serve as a liaison between referring providers, patients, and the care team.
- Review and obtain necessary medical records, insurance authorizations, and consents.
- Respond to incoming clinical intake phone calls from referring physician offices and families.
- Educate and support families and referring providers regarding the referral process.
- Partner with facilities to prioritize urgent referrals.
- Communicate with scheduling and families regarding referral status and documentation needs.
- Review and process documents received via online systems.
- Verify and obtain missing demographic information or clarification to ensure accurate processing.
- Route documents to appropriate teams (Clinical Nurses, Scheduling, Clinic) per guidelines.
- Correct misrouted documents and use flag system/dashboard to prioritize work.
- Process internal consult orders and online referrals, routing appropriately per intake protocols.
- Request records for flagged referrals and follow up with PCP offices as needed.
- Maintain and update referral process documentation and guidelines.
- Research and resolve issues related to missing or incomplete information.
- Perform data entry and prepare reports to support intake operations.
- Provide feedback and educational materials to referring providers to reduce errors and improve referral efficiency.
- Collaborate with internal teams to identify trends and address recurring issues with specific providers.
- Serve as an internal expert on clinical intake processes.
- Respond to staff inquiries and provide educational support on intake workflows and systems.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required
- Current State of Florida or compact RN license required.
- Must obtain APHON Certificate withing six (6) months of hire date.
- Valid American Heart Association BLS Certification required upon hire.
- CPHON, CPON, or BMTCN certification preferred.
