QUALIFICATIONS

Required: Ability to work under pressure and flexible hours; Possess tact, diplomacy and discretion; Works and communicates effectively with other personnel, patients, and physicians.  Ability to teach others; Organize work and establish priorities according to individual patient needs. 

Lic/Reg/Cert: Current Oregon RN License/Chemotherapy & Biotherapy within 12 months of hire, including completing initial IV Therapy Skills Form.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS

 Medium to high physical and mental demand capabilities required.  Ability to walk and to stand throughout tour of duty. Must be able to work independently as well as with co-workers and patients.  Must be able to give direction to other providers to ensure proper patient care is being delivered to all patients.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Completion of the NC Process Assessment, Care Planning implementation, and evaluation.
  • Revises care plan in timely manner as patient condition and treatment changes.
  • Demonstrates ability to carry out the following skills as outlined in nursing procedures:
    • PICC line dressing changes
    • Central line dressing changes
    • Port-A-Cath access and care
    • Start/DC peripheral IV
    • Administer an IV, SQ, IM medications and blood products
    • Knowledge of current trends in IV Therapy
    • Expertise in initiation and maintenance of intravenous therapy
  • Demonstrates competence in the use of all appropriate equipment (i.e. CADD Prizm, Freedom – 60, etc)
  • Demonstrates effectiveness in educating patients and caregivers about management of diseases and pertinent care needs as well as preventative measures as they relate to the disease/medication side effects.
  • Serves all age groups and Documents appropriate patient related information.
  • Maintains confidentiality; patient education; knowledge of and adherence to OSHA and Safety Policies.
  • Effective response in emergency situations.
  • Delegate, coordinate, organize, communicate with patients, physicians, other departments and peers.
  • Maintains effective working relationships and maintains flexibility in staffing to meet patient needs.
  • Effective use of resources, including computer literate after training.
  • Maintains competency in all position responsibilities and is able to adapt to change rapidly.
  • Participates in QI activities and voice ideas/opinions in staff meetings.
  • Works on project(s) that contribute to the development and subsequent improvement of the Pharmacy Department.
  • Assesses physical needs and functional status of the patient in order to provide patient care.
